SAN ANTONIO – The Tigers played their final match of in season play this Saturday night against the Southwestern Pirates. Heading into the match, the Tigers had control of their fate. Securing a win would mean the Tigers won the SAA Regular Season Championship, and just as predicted in the preseason poll, that's exactly what they did. The Tigers won the match 2-0 against the Southwestern Pirates.
The Rundown
With a nice fall breeze in the air, it was a perfect night for some soccer. It was clear from the first minute of the match it was a match the Tigers would be dominating. They controlled the pace of the game, giving the Pirates only one chance on goal throughout the entire match, which was easily saved by goalkeeper
Lauren Little (Houston, TX). The Tigers were unable to convert in the first half, but created multiple dangerous opportunities, giving the team confidence going into the next half that they would find the net.
The Tigers remained calm and played their game, never letting the Pirates touch the ball. They trusted if they played their game, their goal would come, and that's just what happened. In the 67th minute of the game, forward
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne) received the ball at the top of the 18-yard box, a position no defender wants Doran at. She dribbled through multiple Pirate defenders and found herself near the PK spot, and fired away. The Tigers finally found the net, putting them up 1-0. A little bit later in the half at the 84th minute, midfielder
Clara Richards (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville South) stepped up to take a corner kick. Richard's hit a perfectly placed kick at the top of the six-yard box, where defender
Ilsa Newland (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) ran through the ball, running it right into the back of the net. With two beautiful goals, earned through pure grit and hard work, the Tigers earned a win against the Pirates. This win also secured the Tigers winning first in the SAA regular season.
