San Antonio, TEXAS – For the first time since 2017, the Trinity women's cross country team is going dancing. With their fourth-place finish at the DIII West Region Championship on Nov. 15, the Tigers earned themselves an at-large bid to the National Championship. They'll hit the road this Saturday, Nov. 22, and head to Spartanburg, SC, to take on the nation's very best.
En route to the national championship, the Tigers had their best performance since they moved to the West region in 2021.
Gianna Keena,
Kate Boone, Sophie Muñoz and
Emerson Voldan earned All-Region honors, the most from a Trinity squad since they won the South region in 2017. On a day in which an atmospheric river turned the Pomona-Pitzer course into a flood zone, the women beat UC Santa Cruz by just three points to secure fourth place. The Banana Slugs also earned an at-large bid, marking the second straight year the West region has sent five teams to the National Championship.
This has been a historic season for the Tigers. They won their first conference championship in the SAA in dominant fashion, with runners sweeping spots five through nine. Now, they're headed to the National Championship for the first time in eight years. On Saturday, they'll be at USC Upstate, fighting tooth and nail on Division III's biggest stage, surrounded by the most screaming, shirtless fans you can find outside of a college football game.
