San Antonio, TEXAS – The Trinity men's basketball team (5-1) heads home for the first time this season to play Hardin-Simmons University (4-2) on Nov. 30. This will be the first time new Head Coach Marwan Elrakabaway will lead his Tigers in Calgaard after playing the first six games of the season on the road. When the two teams matched up in Dec. of last year, Trinity came out on top, 78-71.
After an undefeated weekend at the Great Lakes Invitational and against La Roche University, the Tigers earned the No. 16 ranking in week one of the national poll. The weekend started with a win against Marietta College that saw Trinity come back from a 19-point deficit to take an 86-81 win over the Pioneers.
Dylan Walker had a career-high 33 points in the outing. The following day, the Tigers cruised to a 75-59 win over Case Western Reserve University, leading by 25 after the first half of play.
Will Bronson had 5 blocks against the Titans, his second time with 5 or more rejections this season. The road trip concluded with a 90-77 win over La Roche in which Bronson posted a monster double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds on 89% (8-9) shooting.
Preview – Cowboys Come to San Antone
On the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys: The Cowboys moved to 4-2 after dropping their last two games to Concordia University and Texas Lutheran University. They've been solid scoring the ball so far this season, shooting an efficient 45% from the field, although shooting just 29% from three. That second figure dropped substantially after their three-point loss to the Bulldogs on Nov. 23, shooting a lackluster 13% (1-8) from three. They are led by junior forward Chris Bryant, who averages 15.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2 blocks per game on 63% shooting. Silas Davis is also a key player for Hardin-Simmons, averaging 12.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 rebounds per game, although shooting just 35% from the field.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will hit the road again after taking on the Cowboys, heading to Houston to take on the University of St. Thomas (3-1). The matchup against the Celts, whose one loss was by one-point to No. 5 Washington University (St. Louis), marks the first time Trinity will face off against a former SCAC opponent. St. Thomas has won 12 of the two team's 14 matchups.
