The Rundown
Trinity took the court at the Bell Center looking to extend their dominance against Southwestern. The Tigers wasted no time setting the tone, with
Grant Jacobs scoring the first points for Trinity with a layup. Southwestern responded quickly, keeping the game competitive through the opening minutes. However, Trinity's perimeter shooting began to make a difference, as
Jacob Harvey knocked down a three-pointer that helped spark a run that put the Tigers ahead 20-14 with 10 minutes in the half. The Tigers' defense also played a crucial role, forcing turnovers that led to transition baskets. By the end of the first half, Trinity had established control with a 48-31 lead.
Southwestern attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, but Trinity had other plans. The Tigers came out with an exciting 12-0 that put the score at 60-36. The Tigers continued to dominate the boards, with
Ty Williams and
Braxton Barry securing key rebounds that prevented Southwestern from gaining momentum. Despite a brief scoring surge from the visitors, Trinity's ball movement and efficient shooting allowed them to maintain a comfortable advantage.
As the game progressed into the final stretch, Trinity's depth proved to be the difference. Contributions from the bench, including a crucial three-pointer from
Max Sprott, helped widen the gap. Southwestern struggled to keep pace, with Trinity's defense tightening up in the closing minutes.
Carter Ruck's aggressive play on both ends of the floor ensured the Tigers remained in control.
With just over two minutes to play, head coach
Jimmy Smith subbed in senior
Henry Thompson. As Thompson stepped onto the floor, the crowd erupted with excitement. The offense instantly looked to get the ball to the fresh legs of Henry. With 1:46 on the clock, Thompson drove to the free throw line, took a well-timed jumper, and hit the bank shot for his first career points. As the clock hit zero, with a well-rounded team effort, Trinity secured an emphatic 94-63 victory
