No. 13 Tiger Women's Tennis Edges No. 7 Johns Hopkins

LEXINGTON, Va. – No. 13 Trinity University women's tennis edged No. 7 Johns Hopkins 4-3 on Sunday morning, capping off a highly competitive weekend at the Washington & Lee-hosted event.

With the win, Trinity improves to 6-1 on the season, while Johns Hopkins drops to 2-1. The Blue Jays were handed their first loss since last year's NCAA Quarterfinals, with Trinity bouncing back from Friday's loss against Washington & Lee with a pair of important wins. This marks the Tigers' biggest win of the season thus far, taking down a top-10 opponent in a thrilling battle.

The morning started with a tough doubles session, as the Tigers dropped the point for the first time this season. Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Arizona / Desert Mountain) and Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) fell 6-0 on line two. Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) were defeated 6-3 on line three. Meanwhile, Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy) and Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) dropped a 6-3 decision on line one, giving the Blue Jays the early 1-0 lead.

Despite the early setback, the Tigers responded with a dominant singles performance. Hill wasted no time securing a 6-3, 6-0 win on line one to get Trinity on the board. Kim battled at line two but fell 6-1, 7-5. Hughes followed with a gritty three-set victory at line three, winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Andrade was defeated 6-2, 6-2 at line six.

Lines four and five were where the Tigers showed their heart to secure the win. Levy and Lucy Nabedrick (Plymouth, Minnesota / Wayzata) added back-to-back three-set wins at lines five and four, respectively. Desptie starting her second set down 5-0, Levy prevailed 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Nabedrick secured a 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 triumph while also starting set two down 5-0.
