HOUSTON – The 15th-ranked Trinity University men's golf team shot a third-round score of 285 to finish off the win at the Space City Classic and first-year
Sam Rossi (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) also won the medalist honors as the top individual in the tournament.
The Tigers shot a three-round total score of 859 (288-285-286) and finished four shots ahead of LeTourneau University (TX) and its final score of 863 (289-299-284) for second place. The University of St. Thomas (TX) held on for third place with a score of 879 (296-284-299), while the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) (881) edged out Willamette University (OR) (882) by a single shot to take fourth. Texas Lutheran University was sixth with 901 shots, Millsaps College (MS) was seventh with a total of 907 to beat Hardin-Simmons University (TX) (908) by one. Howard Payne University (TX) was ninth with a three-round total of 936 and Centenary College (LA) was 10th with a final score of 947.
Rossi won the tournament after shooting all three rounds in the 60s, finishing eight shots ahead of the nearest competitor. He finished with a score of 203 (68-69-66) and tied for the best single-round score of the tournament with today's five-under 66. Rossi carded six birdies in today's final round, picking up three of those on his first five holes of the day and played the front nine at four-under (32).
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) finished in a tie for sixth after shooting a three-round total of 216 (71-72-73). He birdied the final two holes to finish strong and had three total birdies in today's round.
Carter Code (Calgary, Canada / Manning) was just one shot behind his teammate in ninth place, shooting 217 (75-70-72) for the week. He capped the tournament with eight birdies in his final round, recording three straight on holes seven, eight, and nine. Code then had four more birdies to shoot 33 (two-under) on the back nine.
Jeffrey Forster (Santa Barbara, Calif. / San Marcos) was playing as an individual, but he still managed to tie for a spot in the top 10 individually after shooting 218 (75-71-72). He overcame a rocky start that included three bogeys on his first six holes, managing to get back to a plus-one 72 on the day.
Aiden Marlow (San Antonio, Texas / Churchill) carded four birdies on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 25th with a score of 227 (74-78-75), playing the back nine at even-par.
Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) birdied two of the final four holes and finished with a score of 231 (81-74-76) for the week.
