Box Score SEGUIN, Texas – The Trinity University men's basketball team continued its dominant run of form with an emphatic 86-38 victory over Texas Lutheran University on Friday night at Memorial Gym.
The Tigers improved to 17-3 this season with the win and are 10-1 in SCAC play, while Texas Lutheran dropped to 4-7 in the conference and 6-14 overall. Trinity took full control early, racing out to a 48-13 halftime lead before cruising to victory in the second half. The Tigers shot an impressive 51.7% from the field, including a 43.8% mark from beyond the arc. Their defensive effort held Texas Lutheran to just 22.4% shooting overall and a cold 18.5% from three-point range. Trinity also dominated in several areas, including a 44-16 edge in points in the paint, a 27-8 advantage on points off turnovers, and a 24-11 lead in fastbreak points.
Jacob Millhouse (Plano, Texas / Independence) led the Tigers with 14 points, while
Ty Williams (Pearland, Texas / Pearland) and
Braxton Barry (Houston, Texas / Westbury Christian) each added 10 points. Millhouse also contributed four assists and three rebounds, while Williams pulled down four rebounds and recorded a block and a steal.
Max Sprott (Mission Hills, Kan. / Pembroke Hill) and
Joshua Chesney (Corpus Christi, Texas / London) each knocked down a pair of three-pointers off the bench, scoring six points apiece.
The Rundown
Trinity wasted no time imposing its will, jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the opening minutes, highlighted by a three-pointer from
Dean Balo (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) and back-to-back layups from Millhouse. By the 10-minute mark, Trinity had surged to a 25-9 lead, with
Ty Williams laying down a powerful dunk off a
Jacob Harvey (Huffman, Texas / Hargrave) assist.
As the first half wore on, the Tigers continued to tighten the screws defensively, holding the Bulldogs without a field goal for nearly five minutes. Meanwhile, Trinity's offense kept rolling, with Barry converting on second-chance points and
Carter Ruck (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) sinking a corner three to push the lead past 30 points. In the closing moments of the half, Trinity's relentless pace culminated in a 13-1 run. The highlight came when Ruck hit a deep three-pointer at the buzzer, sending the Tigers into the locker room with a commanding 48-13 lead.
The second half followed much of the same script. Trinity opened with a 12-2 run that left no doubt about the outcome. Midway through the half, the Tigers showcased their depth, with
Zach Fenn (Covington, La. / Saint Paul's) and
Grant Jacobs (New Braunfels, Texas / New Braunfels) contributing on both ends of the floor. Fenn's second half block and subsequent fastbreak layup summed up Trinity's hustle and determination.
As the clock wound down, Sprott sealed the statement win with a three-pointer from well beyond the arc, cementing Trinity's largest lead of the night at 50 points. Texas Lutheran managed a small run in the final minutes, but it was too little, too late as the Tigers closed out the game with a 48 point win.
