AUSTIN, Texas – The 15th-ranked Trinity University Baseball team suffered its first loss of the 2025 season with a 4-2 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference defeat against Concordia University (TX) on Saturday.
The Tigers fell to 7-1 (7-1 SCAC) on the season as Concordia evened up the weekend series at 1-1.
Andrew Mason (Austin, Texas / Anderson) was tagged with the loss in his second start of the season, allowing two runs in 1.1 innings of work. Despite the loss, Trinity recorded more hits in the game, with six different Tigers finding their way on base with the stick compared to four for the Tornados.
Concordia struck early, putting across two runs to take a 2-0 lead over the Tigers. The troubles for the Tigers continued when Concordia hit a two-run homer to extend their lead to 4-0.
Will Taylor (Greenwood Village, Colo. / Cherry Creek) came on in relief and stopped any further damage, striking out three Concordia players over the course of two innings with no runs allowed.
John Ramsey (Austin, Texas / Westwood) got the first base knock midway through the game to get some momentum going for the Tigers.
Kaleb Woodward (San Pedro, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) helped him out by advancing him on the basepaths with a single up the middle. Ramsey would go on to prevent the shutout when he came in to score thanks to a
Callen Singhania (Dallas, Texas / Jesuit College Prep) RBI sacrifice fly.
Kyle Hoggatt (San Antonio, / Texas Reagan) was another Tiger who came out of the bullpen strong, pitching two shutout innings to keep the game within Trinity's grasp.
Nicholas Lazzara (Carrollton, Texas / Jesuit College Prep) recorded the other RBI for the Tigers with a single that drove in
Khalfani Coney (Los Angeles, Calif. / Crossroads School), tightening the gap to just two runs late in the game.
Clayton Jackson (Allen, Texas / Jesuit College Prep) made a relief appearance in the bottom of the eighth inning, and he gave Trinity a chance at winning by retiring both batters he faced to keep the deficit at two. Although Trinity was hoping to mount a late ninth-inning comeback, Concordia ended up turning a double play to seal the Tigers' fate in a 2-4 loss.
