SAN ANTONIO – The seventh-ranked Trinity University Baseball team recorded a non-conference win over Nichols College on Tuesday night.
The Tigers improved to 13-1 (11-1 SCAC) while Nichols fell to 3-2 on the season. Tiger pitching was highlighted by
Will Taylor (Greenwood Village, Colo. / Cherry Creek) who threw 3.1 shutout innings while also striking out four batters to earn the win and improve to 1-0 this season.
Max Milligan (Amarillo, Texas / Amarillo) wreaked havoc against Nichols pitching, slashing 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBI. The Tiger Pitching staff struck out 13 altogether for a successful night on the mound. Trinity has now won six games in a row.
The Rundown
Things got off to a hot start for the Bisons, as they put up three runs combined in the top of the first and second innings to put the Tigers in a quick 3-0 deficit. This would be the only runs the Bison would score the entire game. Trinity regathered themselves in the bottom of the second, and Milligan scored the opening run for the Tigers with an RBI double to make it 3-1 Nichols.
The Good Guys kicked off the bottom of the fourth with a
Grant Anderson (Austin, Texas / Vista Ridge) double down the right field line to put himself in scoring position, and score he did thanks to a Milligan bomb to tie things at 3-3.
Mattias Rytting (Houston, Texas / Bellaire) put the Tigers ahead by an RBI single, and he came in to score when
Maddox McDonald (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian) hit an RBI double to put Trinity up 5-3 over Nichols. Trinity got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a wild pitch that allowed Anderson to score run number six.
The Ambush got another insurance run when
Will Baker (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) hit an RBI double that increased the lead to 7-3. That lead grew further in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single from McDonald which made the score 8-3 in favor of the good guys.
Will Hellings (Summit, N.J. / Summit), who came on in the top of the seventh, completed the game for Trinity by striking out two batters in the top of the ninth before inducing a ground out to win the game 8-3.
