SAN ANTONIO – The 11th-ranked Trinity University men's tennis team dominated Occidental College on Tuesday afternoon, securing a 7-0 sweep at the
Butch Newman Tennis Center.
The Tigers (8-3) extended their strong start to the season with a commanding performance, while Occidental dropped to 5-4 on the year. Trinity bounced back from their 4-3 loss at the hands of 26th-ranked Carneige Mellon last week, returning to the win column against Oxy.
Doubles action saw Trinity assert early control, with the top-line duo of
Rocco Mendez (Las Vegas, Nev. / Odyssey Charter School) and
Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) setting the tone with a 6-2 victory.
Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) and
Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) quickly followed with a 6-2 win at line three, securing the doubles point.
Eric Liao (Taipei, Taiwan / Boca Prep) and
Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) completed the sweep with another 6-2 triumph at line two, giving the Tigers a 1–0 win heading into singles play.
In singles, Liao delivered the first blow with a swift 6-2, 6-0 win at #4.
Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) then dominated the top position with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, followed by
Connor Whittington (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lake Oswego) clinching the match at line six with a 6-2, 6-0 result. Dhanani added to the tally with a commanding 6-4, 6-0 win at #5. Mendez and Kersten capped off the sweep, each securing straight-set wins at lines two and three, respectively, both by scores of 6-3, 6-3.
