GEORGETOWN, Texas — The 8th-ranked Trinity University Women's Tennis Team continued their excellent Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference form, overpowering the Southwestern University Pirates with a dominant 7-0 victory on the road at the Marvin D. Henderson Sr. Tennis Courts. The win boosts the Tigers' overall record to 16-3 as they head into the final stretch of the season.
The Tigers opened doubles play with energy and focus, as the #3 duo of
Lucy Nabedrick (Plymouth, Minnesota / Wayzata) and
Brooke Belitz (Scottsdale, Arizona / Notre Dame Prep) set the tone early, racing to a confident 6-1 victory. However, Southwestern quickly answered at #2 doubles, handing
Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) a rare setback with a 6-0 loss. With the doubles point hanging in the balance, the experienced pairing of
Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Arizona / Desert Mountain) and
Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) at #1 stepped up, storming to a 6-1 win that clinched the doubles point for the Tigers.
Singles play began with Tin at #5, who wasted no time extending the Tigers' lead, powering through her match to a sharp 6-1, 6-4 victory. The skillful Hill followed at #1, continuing her dominant form with a clinical 6-1, 6-2 result, pushing Trinity within one point of overall victory. To seal the team win in style, Hughes, playing with precision at #2, dropped just a single game in a commanding 6-0, 6-1 performance.
With the match in hand, Trinity didn't let up. Nabedrick at #3 displayed composure throughout, earning a 6-3, 6-3 win to keep the momentum alive. The powerful
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) at #4 faced a competitive opponent but emerged victorious, 6-1, 6-2. Then to cap off the sweep, the freshman
Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kansas / Shawnee Mission East) at #6 fought through a tight first-set tiebreaker before finishing strong, winning 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 to complete a flawless day for the Tigers.
