PENFIELD, NEW YORK – No. 10 Tiger Men's Golf Tied for Fifth After Day One at NCAA III Championships
The Trinity University Men's Golf team opened the NCAA III Championships strong, finishing the first round tied for fifth place with a team score of nine-over par. The Tigers tallied 14 birdies, 46 pars, and led the field with two eagles. They trail tournament leader Illinois Wesleyan by just seven strokes and sit three shots behind second-place teams John Carroll and Carleton. Aurora holds fourth place at +7, while Trinity, Kenyon, and Huntingdon are locked in a three-way tie at +9.
Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) paced the Tigers with a one-over-par 73 to sit in a tie for 17th place. Mason posted three birdies on the front nine and closed out his round by paring his final eight holes.
Carter Code (Calgary, Alberta, Canada / Manning) followed closely with a 74 (+2), highlighted by birdies on holes 10 and 6 and an eagle on hole 8, landin him in a tie 31st.
Jeffrey Forster (Santa Barbara, Calif. / San Marcos) and
Sam Rossi (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) each shot 75 (+3). Forster rebounded from a birdie-less front nine to shoot one-under on the back with three birdies. Rossi matched that back-nine score, adding two birdies and an eagle on hole 8. Both players are tied for 53rd. Rounding out the Tigers' lineup,
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) recorded two birdies en route to a 77 (+5), placing him in a tie for 100th.
