#10 Men's Golf Falls Short of the Cut in Playoff at NCAA Championships

PENFIELD, N.Y. – The 10th-ranked Trinity University men's golf team fell just short of making the cut after the second round of play at the 2025 NCAA III Championships, finishing in a four-way tie for 17th, but losing out in a playoff to determine the teams moving on to the next two rounds.

The Tigers tied with the University of Redlands (CA), Gettysburg College (PA), and Amherst College (MA) with a two-round score of 611 to force the playoff. All five players from each team played a hole (7, 8, 9, 15, and 16) and the two lowest aggregate scores moved on (Gettysburg and Amherst), while the other two teams (Trinity and Redlands) were cut. Trinity shot 297-314 across two rounds, which was just six shots from a spot in the top 10.

Trinity was led by Jacob Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) and his two-day total of 149 (73-76) that placed him in a tie for 24th place individually. He was one of 13 total players tied with scores of 149, which was likely just one shot from potentially qualifying as an individual. Mason finished the week with five total birdies, two of which were during today's round.

Jeffrey Forster (Santa Barbara, Calif. / San Marcos), Carter Code (Calgary, Canada / Manning), and Sam Rossi (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) finished five shots back of Mason with two-day totals of 154, with Forster and Rossi also shooting 75-79 in the two rounds. Forster finished with seven total birdies, carding four in round one and three more in round two. Rossi had two of his three birdies and an eagle in yesterday's round. Code also had an eagle in round one, pairing that with three of his four birdies in the tournament to shoot 74-80 across the two days. Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) shot 157 (77-80) for the week, producing both of his birdies in the opening round.

This is the third time since 2021 that the Tigers have finished in the top 20 nationally, as well as the fourth time since 2003 that the program has cracked the top 20 at the NCAA Championships.
