#10 Tiger Women's Soccer Draws With #23 Pacific Lutheran

Story Links

SAN ANTONIO – After a statement-making 6–0 win in their season opener, the 10th-ranked Tiger women's soccer team faced a tougher test in #23 Pacific Lutheran University on Sunday in the Texas heat. Despite dictating much of the match and creating the majority of scoring opportunities, the Tigers were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw at Paul McGinlay Field.

While the result may not have reflected the full story of the game, Trinity's dominance in possession, tempo, and scoring opportunities made clear that they remain a formidable presence early in the 2025 season.

The Rundown
From the opening whistle, the Tigers set the tone, moving the ball quickly and keeping Pacific Lutheran pinned deep in their own half. Trinity wasted no time creating chances, firing off several early shots that built immediate confidence. Just three minutes in, captain and attacking midfielder Bri Werner (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) finished a low cross from wide forward Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne) at the near post for a sharp one-touch goal. Werner, one of the team's top scorers in 2024, picked up right where she left off. The Tigers kept the momentum flowing throughout the first half, pressing relentlessly and peppering the goal with attempts from Werner, Doran, and center forward and captain Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll). Despite dominating possession and keeping the Lutes on their heels, Trinity couldn't add to their tally before halftime.

Heading into the second half the Tigers were looking to put one away quickly to keep that momentum and dominance in their favor. However, in the 49th minute, the Lutes found a rare opening in the Tigers defense; the Lutes converted from just inside the 18-yard box to even the score at 1–1. The Tigers kept the attacking pressure on the Lutes, Doran and Madysin Barganski (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) among those consistently testing the Lutes' goalkeeper. Despite wave after wave of pressure, however, the Lutes' defense held firm. Pacific Lutheran almost found their game winner towards the end of the match, however goalkeeper Claire Binns (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) performed a stunning diving save, keeping the Tigers in the match. The Tigers walked off the field with a draw, their control and dominance evident on the stat sheet but not fully reflected on the scoreboard.

Up Next
The Tigers now turn their attention to a demanding road trip in Dallas this coming weekend, where they'll face the University of Dallas before taking on nationally ranked No. 12 MIT back-to-back. Both matches will serve as early-season tests for a Trinity squad that has already shown the depth, composure, and attacking firepower to compete on a national stage. Even with Sunday's tie, Trinity remains unbeaten at Paul McGinlay Field since 2023, proof that the Tigers are still one of Division III's toughest teams to face on their home turf.
