SAN ANTONIO – The undefeated and 6th-ranked Trinity University Men's Soccer Team kept its perfect start alive with a dominant 3-0 victory over Concordia University (TX) on Sunday evening at
Paul McGinlay Field.
The Rundown
The opening minutes were frantic as both sides fought to establish rhythm, but once the Tigers settled into possession, the Tornados never looked comfortable. The breakthrough came just before the half-hour mark when senior captain
Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) stepped up from the penalty spot after a Concordia handball in the box. Knutson made no mistake, sending the keeper the wrong way with a cool finish into the bottom right-hand corner.
Barely five minutes later, Trinity struck again.
Hodge MacDonald (Hertford, England / Haileybury) threaded a perfectly weighted pass down the right flank to
Kassen Dilworth (Schertz, Texas / Clemens), who burst to the byline and whipped a low ball across the six-yard box. Waiting in acres of space was Knutson, who calmly dinked home his second of the night and fourth of the season to give Trinity a commanding 2-0 cushion. By halftime, the Tigers had outshot Concordia 12-5 and carried all the momentum.
The second half brought more of the same. Just nine minutes after the restart, Knutson turned provider, slipping a precise ball through two defenders and into the path of
Alex Baltov (Shreveport, La. / Caddo Parish Magnet). The forward beat the keeper to the pass and unselfishly squared the ball back towards
Samuel Theiss (Boerne, Texas / Boerne), who glanced home the Tigers' third of the day and his fifth goal of the season. From there, Trinity dictated tempo, outshooting Concordia 24-8 and forcing the Tornados' keeper into five saves. At the back, the Tigers were airtight once again, with goalkeepers
Jayden Schell (Dallas, Texas / Plano) and
Brandon Gongora (San Antonio, Texas / Madison) combining for a comfortable clean sheet.
Knutson's brace and assist stole the headlines, but this was another all-around display of control, creativity, and composure. With their fourth shutout in five matches, the Tigers improved to 5-0-0 on the season.
