No. 12 Tiger Volleyball Travels To Georgia For SAA Megapod

The Tigers (9-3) had a great start to their first SAA conference weekend going 3-0 and not even dropping a set against Berry, Centre, and Rhodes.
 
SAA Player of the Week- Reagan Whatley
 
For the second time this season, senior Reagan Whatley (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands) has been named SAA Offensive Athlete of the week. 
 
From the SAA Press Release: 
 
Whatley led the Tigers in kills (36 total/4.00 per set), aces (7), and points (47.0) over the weekend, while also hitting .333 with just six errors in 90 attacks. She tied for the match lead with her own teammate in Saturday's 3-0 win over #15 Berry, adding three aces and seven digs to her stat line. Whatley also had nine digs to lead all players in Saturday's finale against Centre, hitting .318 while adding four blocks and five digs. She saved her best for last in Sunday's weekend finale, leading all players again with 15 kills and a .424 hitting percentage. Whatley also had three more aces and six digs along with 19.0 total points.
 
AVCA Poll- Tigers at 12
 
There was some shakeup in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll this week. The Tigers climbed four spots up to #12. La Verne is now in the #1 spot followed by East Texas Baptist. Both teams remain undefeated. Wisconsin-Oshkosh fills the #3 spots, then Wisconsin- Whitewater, and Washington- St. Louis rounds out the top 5.
 
Preview- SAA Weekend 2
 
The Tigers will travel to Rome, Georgia to take on three conference opponents. The Tigers open up with Oglethorpe on Saturday at 10:30 AM and then play Sewanee later that day at 4:00 PM. The Tigers will close out their weekend action against Millsaps at 10:30 AM. The Tigers have a historical 35-0 record against all three teams they face this weekend.

On the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels:

Oglethorpe enters the weekend with a 6-8 overall record. The Stormy Petrels are led by senior Outside Hitter Gracie Sims, who tops the team with 112 kills. Setter, Autumn Lilly, has been a steady presence on the court, totalling 400 assists, 125 digs and 25 aces. The Stormy Petrels had a tough opening weekend losing to Millsaps, Southwestern, and Sewanee. 

On the Sewanee Tigers: 

Sewanee comes into the weekend with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference play. The team is riding a four-match win streak, including a sweep of Oglethorpe last Sunday. Junior Outside Hitter, Savannah Gann, leads the offense with 150 kills and a 4.01 points per set. Setter, Emma Meyer, has been instrumental, averaging 7.82 assists per set. Sewanee's defense is anchored by Sophia Caruso, who leads the team with 214 digs. 

On the Millsaps Majors: 

Millsaps enters the weekend with a 10-4 overall record and are 1-3 in SAA play. Senior Outside Hitter, Ally Baer, leads the Majors with 188 kills and a .313 hitting percentage, while Setter, Rachel Zamjahn, has tallied 487 assists, averaging 8.12 per set. Defensively, Sandy Bourgeois leads the team with 284 digs, and Baer also leads the team in blocks with 35, 0.56 per set. The Majors have been aggressive from the service line, recording 155 aces to their opponents 91. 

Looking Ahead:

The Tigers will return to Julie Jenkins Court to host Centre and Sewanee on October 11th and 12th.
