No. 11 Tiger Men's Soccer Battles Kalamazoo and Schreiner

The No.11 Trinity Men's Soccer Team competes against former SCAC foes Schreiner & Kalamazoo College this coming weekend

Last weekend, the Tigers (1-0-0) won 2-1 against the No.17 nationally ranked Claremont Stags, while Sunday's game against the St. Thomas Celts was abandoned midway through the 1st half due to lightning - Trinity were winning 2-0 at the time of the stoppage. Samuel Theiss (Boerne, Texas / Boerne), looking to improve on his 12-goal involvements from last term, opened the scoring on Friday night after latching onto a whipped cross from the sophomore Alex Baltov (Shreveport, La. / Caddo Parish Magnet). Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs), a 2024 first-team all-region player, extended the lead after a fine bit of combination play on the right flank from Joey Perryman (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) and Thomas Kay (Stanstead Mountfitchet, England / Bishop's Stortford). Trinity will now await to see how this victory against ranked opponents will affect their standing in the national rankings.

Preview

This weekend, the Tigers will be back at home against Schreiner University, on Friday, September 5th at 6:00 p.m. They will then follow that up against Kalamazoo College on Sunday, September 7th, at 7:00 p.m.

On the Schreiner University Mountaineers: Last season the mountaineers held a 5-9-2 record and failed to reach the SCAC tournament. Coming into this weekend's matchup, the Mountaineers bring an 0-2 record after losing out to Mary Hardin-Baylor and Hardin Simmons on Labor Day weekend 3-1 and 4-0 respectively. Historically, the Tigers have never lost to the Mountaineers and hold a 27-0-1 record against them, with last season's outing resulting in a 5-0 victory. After only graduating four players from last season's roster, the Mountaineers will be bringing a young but experienced team this weekend.

Players to watch out for: A senior midfielder Owen Comstock who received a SCAC honorable mention last season, Owen Harris a sophomore forward who featured in the SCAC All-freshman team last season, as well as Bhodey Miller, a junior forward who scored the Mountaineers' only goal so far this season against UMHB.

On the Kalamazoo College Hornets: The Hornets held a 5-10-3 record in the 2024 campaign, with their season ending in the first round of the MIAA tournament in a 2-1 loss to Calvin University. Coming into this weekend's matchup, the Hornets hold a positive 2-0 record after defeating UM Dearborn and Aquinas at home on Labor Day weekend 2-0 and 1-0 respectively. Prior to our matchup against them they first took a trip to Georgetown, TX to face the Southwestern University Pirates on Friday, September 5th. This will be the first time in history that these two programs have ever faced each other.

Players to watch out for: A senior forward Henry Plumstead who last season earned All-MIAA Second Team honors after contributing 5 goals and 6 assists and has already bagged 1 goal this season. As well as a junior forward Lucas Ruiz who last season contributed 4 goals and 2 assists, and has scored 2 of the Hornets 3 goals so far this season.
Looking Ahead

The tigers will travel to Seguin, TX on Friday, September 12th to face the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs and then return home on Sunday, September 14th to face the Concordia University Tornados.
