WHITNEY, Texas – The Trinity University men's golf team opened play at the Texas Tri-Match on Monday with two rounds at the White Bluff Resort Old Course.
The par-72 layout in Whitney presented a strong test, but the Tigers put together consistent rounds to remain in contention. Trinity's team total leaves them just a handful of strokes off the lead heading into Tuesday's final round. The Tigers finished the day in second with a two-round score of 584 (295–289). Mary Hardin-Baylor is in first place with a team score of 576 (289-287), with Southwestern in third at 586 (294-292). Mary Hardin-Baylor B and Southwestern B round out the rest of the teams at 598 (301-297) and 615 (308-307).
Individually,
Andre Follmer (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) led the Tigers with rounds of 72 and 69 for a three-under total of 141, placing him in second. Follmer's second round featured six birdies, including four on the front nine, to post the team's lowest round of the day. Follmer's score of minus three is just one stroke behind the tournament leader.
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) joined Follmer under par after carding rounds of 72 and 71 to sit at one-under 143 overall. Sandhu played steady golf across both rounds, highlighted by three birdies during his second 18, putting him in a tie for third place.
Carter Code (Calgary, Alberta, Canada / Manning) and
Jeffrey Forster (Santa Barbara, Calif. / San Marcos) provided key depth for Trinity. Code turned in scores of 75 and 74 (149), while Forster posted 76 and 75 (151). Both players stayed consistent in round two, combining for five birdies in the afternoon session. Currently, Code is in a tie for 12th while Forster is tied for 16th. Rounding out the lineup,
Ethan Sullivan (Norfolk, Mass. / King Philip) carded rounds of 80 and 76 for a two-round total of 156 (24th place), improving by four strokes in his second trip around the course.
Competing as individuals,
Sam Rossi (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) and
Brody Grieb (Bend, Ore. / Summit) both recorded 150 totals after solid play. Rossi stayed consistent throughout the two rounds, carding a 76 and 74 and Grieb shot a 75 for both rounds, both players sit in a tie for 14th place.
Alex Place (San Antonio, Texas / Roosevelt) rounded out the individual competitors with scores of 80 and 86.
