Tiger Men's Basketball Prep For Weekend Test At Home

Tiger Men's Hoops continues their conference home stand against Oglethorpe and Berry. 
 
The Tigers (9-3, 1-0 SAA) opened their Southern Athletic Association (SAA) journey with a dominant 94-74 win over Southwestern. Jackson Lawson (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) led the squad with 22 points on 8-13 shooting and 2-3 from deep. Will Bronson (Dallas, Texas / Jesuit) put up another double-double with 16 points and 13 boards, while also adding three blocks. As a team, the Tigers shot 48 percent from the field and out-rebounded Southwestern 54-39. 
 
Preview - Back Into The SAA
 
Trinity will host a duo of Southern Athletic Association opponents this weekend. First, the Tigers will play against Oglethorpe on Friday, January 9th at 8:00 PM. Then, after a day off, they will play against Berry on Sunday, January 11th at 2:00 PM. 
 
On the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels: The Petrels enter Calgaard Gymnasium with a 4-8 overall record (1-0 SAA). Their four wins this season have come against opponents with a combined record of 10-41. Oglethorpe's most recent victory was a December 5 win over Baptist University of Florida, and the Petrels have since dropped five consecutive games.
 
Offensively, senior guard Malachi Dooley is the focal point of the attack, leading the team at 21.5 points per game. He is shooting an efficient 49 percent from the field while also contributing 5.6 rebounds per contest. As a team, the Petrels have struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 29 percent from three-point range, and enter the matchup with a nearly 1:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
The last meeting between the two programs came during the 2018–19 season, when Oglethorpe edged Trinity 60-55. Historically, however, the Tigers hold the advantage in the series with a 23-16 all-time record.
 
On the Berry Vikings: The Vikings enter the matchup with a 4-8 overall record (0-1 SAA). Their four victories this season have come against Centenary, Asbury, Covenant, and LaGrange. Berry has dropped its last three games and has not recorded a win since December 13. In conference play, the Vikings opened SAA action with an 83-78 loss to Oglethorpe on December 3.

Offensively, junior guard Cameron Pope leads the team, averaging 12.8 points per game. Sophomore forward Nile King has also been productive in limited action, averaging 13.2 points per game while shooting an efficient 55 percent from the field in just five appearances.

The last meeting between the two programs came during the 2016–17 season, when Trinity defeated Berry 89-80 in the lone matchup.

The Tigers will hit the road to battle Rhodes and Millsaps on January 16th and 18th.
