Trinity Men's Soccer Blank Centre College 4-0 on the Road for First SAA Win

DANVILLE, KY - Trinity University Men's Soccer (5-2-4) controlled proceedings from start to finish on a rainy Sunday at Amend Field, shutting out Centre College (2-8-2) 4-0 to pick up its first conference victory of the season and close out an unbeaten week-long road swing.

From the opening whistle, the Tigers had the ball and the territory. Aside from a couple of chances on the counter for the Colonels in the first half, Trinity dictated the tempo and repeatedly pinned Centre back, earning a string of corners and set pieces inside the opening 20 minutes. Joey Perryman (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound), Luke Mayfield (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce), and Julian Lopez (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal) all tested Centre goalkeeper Miller, and it felt like only a matter of time before the Tigers found a breakthrough.

That breakthrough came in the 23rd minute, and fittingly, it came from a dead ball. Alex Baltov (Shreveport, Louisiana / Caddo Parish Magnet) swung a perfectly placed corner in from the right, and onto the head of captain Daniel Urquidi (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock), standing in the center of the six-yard box, who simply had to nod it down into the back of the net for the first goal of his Trinity career.

Trinity carried a 1-0 lead into the break, having outshot the Colonels 9-4, earning eight corners in the process.

The second half began much like the first, with the Tigers controlling possession but struggling to carve out clear-cut chances. That changed in the 62nd minute. Perryman picked up the ball on the left and drove at the backline before slipping a stampeding Cade Dougan (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal) in behind the defense and into the box. Dougan took one touch and drove it across the goalkeeper into the bottom right-hand corner, for his first goal since 2024.

Dougan didn't have to wait long for his second. Less than ten minutes later, Perryman curled a dangerous corner in from the left that was arcing toward goal and looked like it might cross the line on its own. Centre goalkeeper Parish clawed it away, but only into the path of Dougan, who volleyed home from point-blank range. The goal went to Dougan, though there were some questions over whether Perryman had already beaten Parish for an Olimpico. Either way, it was Perryman's second assist of the afternoon.

The Tigers capped the scoring in the 83rd minute. After a neat bit of combination play down the right, Jeremy Siau (Granite Bay, California / Granite Bay) lasered an inch-perfect cross into the path of Hodge MacDonald (Hertford, England / Haileybury), who glanced it into the bottom left corner in true striker's fashion. It was MacDonald's second goal in as many wins, after he opened the scoring against Concordia last weekend.

Defensively, Trinity was rarely troubled. Centre managed five shots but failed to put a single one on target, with 2025 All-SAA Honorable Mention selections O'Hara and Cajuste each held to one off-target attempt. The Tigers' three goalkeepers, Jayden Schell (Dallas, Texas / Plano), Brandon Gongora (San Antonio, Texas / Madison), and Jack Madsen (Highland Park, Texas / Highland Park), combined for the clean sheet without needing to make a save, Trinity's second straight shutout win. At the other end, Centre's Miller and Parish split the 90 minutes and made four saves between them.

By the final whistle, the numbers reflected a commanding Trinity performance. A 15-5 edge in shots, 8-0 in shots on goal, and 15-2 in corner kicks. The win improves Trinity to 17-5-2 all-time against Centre and extends the Tigers' unbeaten run in the series, which dates back to 2011. It also sends the Colonels to 0-4-0 in conference play.
