Trinity Men's Soccer Edge Oglethorpe 1-0

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TX - The Trinity University Men's Soccer team (6-2-5) stretched its unbeaten run to ten matches on Sunday afternoon, edging Oglethorpe University (5-5-4) 1-0 at Paul McGinlay Field to close out its home SAA weekend and extend its winning streak over the Stormy Petrels to 20 straight games.

The Tigers came out of the gates flying. Ethan Cowdrey (Crawley, England / Ardingly College) forced an early save from Stormy Petrels goalkeeper Lewis in the 7th minute, and less than two minutes later Trinity had its lead. In the 9th minute, Julian Lopez (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal) received the ball on the right flank just outside the box, turned and slipped Leo Jauregui (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) in behind toward the byline. Jauregui took a single touch before whipping a ball into the penalty area, where Eduardo Parra (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma / Casady School) rose at the top right of the six-yard box and glanced a brilliant header into the bottom left-hand corner. The finish was Parra's second goal in as many games and his team-leading seventh of the season. Jauregui picked up an assist on Trinity's opener for the second straight match.

From there, Trinity controlled the half and kept Oglethorpe pinned in its own end. Captain Daniel Urquidi (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock) drew a save from Lewis with a low drive toward the bottom right corner in the 10th minute. Hodge MacDonald (Hertford, England / Haileybury) tested the Oglethorpe keeper twice off the bench, in the 32nd and 41st minutes, but Lewis, a 2025 All-SAA Second Team selection, stood firm both times. The Tigers held a 10-1 shot advantage and a 7-1 edge in corners at the break. They did not let the visitors put a single shot on target in the first half.

The second half followed the same script. Trinity dictated the tempo and pushed for a second goal that would have put the match to bed. Cade Dougan (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal) forced a save from Oglethorpe's second goalkeeper, Varela, in the 74th minute, and Alex Baltov (Shreveport, Louisiana / Caddo Parish Magnet) drew another stop from Varela with a low effort in the 86th. For the second time in as many games, though, the insurance goal never came.

Oglethorpe's best chance arrived in the dying moments. Off a late corner, Reagan sent an effort toward the top right corner in the 90th minute, but Jayden Schell (Dallas, Texas / Plano) was equal to it, making his only save of the afternoon to preserve the clean sheet. It was Trinity's third shutout in its last four matches.

Trinity finished with a 16-5 shot advantage, a 7-1 edge in shots on goal and an 11-3 lead in corners. Parra's 9th-minute header proved to be the difference as the Tigers took four points from their home SAA weekend and stayed unbeaten in conference play.

The win extends Trinity's winning streak against Oglethorpe to 20 games, a run dating back to 1992.
