Trinity Men's Soccer Complete Tennessee Sweep with 3-0 Shutout at Maryville

Box Score MARYVILLE, TN - Trinity University Men's Soccer (8-2-5) extended its unbeaten run to 12 matches on Sunday afternoon, blanking Maryville College (4-6-4) 3-0 at the MC Soccer Complex to complete a perfect weekend in Tennessee.

Trinity came flying out of the traps and needed less than four minutes to find the opener. Julian Lopez (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal) threaded a brilliant line-breaking ball through the Maryville midfield into the feet of Thomas Kay (Stansted Mountfitchet, England / The Bishop's Stortford), who laid it off to Eduardo Parra (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma / Casady School) at the top right of the box, and Parra finessed it into the top left-hand corner. It was Parra's team-leading ninth goal of the season and kept his scoring streak alive at four straight matches.

The Tigers dominated the rest of the half and could easily have doubled the lead sooner, with Luke Mayfield (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) seeing two headers cleared off the line, but the second goal arrived in the 18th minute, less than 15 minutes after the first. Leo Jauregui (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) picked up the ball out on the right flank and curled in an inch-perfect cross for captain Daniel Urquidi (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock), who nodded it past Maryville goalkeeper Ricks from inside the six-yard box for his first goal since converting to striker. Jauregui terrorized the Maryville left back all afternoon and deserved multiple assists for the quality of the balls he whipped into the box, but came away with his fifth assist of the season and his third in four games.

Trinity controlled the remainder of the half, outshooting the Scots 16-2 and forcing nine saves from Ricks, while Jayden Schell (Dallas, Texas / Plano) was called on just twice, making back-to-back stops in the 43rd minute to protect the clean sheet. The half ended on a sour note, though, as center back Ethan Cowdrey (Crawley, England / Ardingly College) suffered a devastating injury late in the period.

With freshman center back Oscar Dempster (London, England / Bolingbroke Academy) also coming down with a knock at halftime, Trinity emerged from the break with a much-changed backline and took a little while to find its rhythm again. It didn't take long, and in the 67th minute Cade Dougan (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal) swung in a delicious inswinging cross from the right that was arcing onto the head of Finnegan Saunders (Albuquerque, New Mexico / Sandia Prep). Saunders looked certain to head it home, but a Maryville defender stuck out a leg to try to block the cross and instead diverted it into his own net to make it 3-0.

The Tigers stayed in control for the rest of the afternoon and kept creating chances, the best of them falling to Samer Dimassi (Sugar Land, Texas / Clements) with a couple of minutes remaining. Dimassi got in behind one-on-one and took the ball around the keeper, only for Ricks to recover brilliantly and claw it away from his feet.

Trinity finished with a 21-5 edge in shots, 12-2 in shots on goal and 4-1 in corners, as Ricks made 10 saves to keep the score respectable. Schell made two saves in 74 minutes before Brandon Gongora (San Antonio, Texas / Madison) and Jack Madsen (Highland Park, Texas / Highland Park) closed out the combined shutout, Trinity's fourth in six matches, while the Tigers' defense held Brophy and Hammer, the 2025 CCS Rookie of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, to a single shot between them. The win is Trinity's first ever over Maryville, evening the all-time series at 1-1 some 32 years after a 3-1 home loss in 1994, and caps a weekend in which the Tigers outscored their Tennessee hosts 7-1 to stay unbeaten in conference play.
