SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University Women's Soccer (13-1-1, 5-1-1 SAA) controlled the game from start to finish in a 1-0 win over Rhodes College (10-4-1, 3-3-1) on Saturday morning at Saint Mary's Hall, Coach Valdespino's infamous stomping grounds. The match was moved back a day after rain postponed Friday's scheduled meeting.
The Tigers had the better of play from the opening whistle and created chances throughout. Trinity broke through in the 21st minute when
Lila Brackin (Dallas, Texas / Lake Highlands) turned off a throw-in, dribbled through the middle of the field and ripped a shot from outside the box for her 10th goal of the season to put Trinity ahead 1-0.
The Tigers nearly doubled their lead in the final seconds when the Rhodes goalkeeper couldn't hold a free kick from
Maggie Hartnett (San Antonio, Texas / Alamo Heights).
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne) tapped in the rebound, but officials ruled the goal came after time expired. The Rhodes goalkeeper kept the Lynx within one all game, finishing with five saves.
That one goal was all Trinity needed. The back line held Rhodes to six shots and two on goal, and
Colette Whitsitt (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) made two saves to keep the clean sheet.
Trinity outshot Rhodes 17-6, put six shots on goal to the Lynx's two and had a 3-1 edge in corners.
