No. 15 Tiger Volleyball Back On The Road For SAA Pod

SAN ANTONIO — No. 15 Trinity Volleyball (10-5, 2-3 SAA) travels to Georgetown, Texas, this weekend for a three-match SAA pod at Southwestern. The Tigers face Sewanee and host Southwestern on Saturday, then close the pod against Maryville (TN) on Sunday.

The Tigers dropped both matches of their first SAA road trip last Friday, falling in five sets to Rhodes and then to host Millsaps in Jackson, Miss., and sit at 2-3 in conference play after going 2-1 on their home weekend. Sophomore Lily Long (Glenview, Ill. / New Trier) leads Trinity with 213 kills (3.87 per set), and junior libero Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) leads the team with 209 digs. Senior Lauren McCarthy (Corrales, N.M. / Horizon) is hitting a team-best .340 and leads the Tigers with 49 blocks. 

AVCA Poll
Trinity is No. 15 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, after falling from No. 7 a week ago. Wisconsin-Oshkosh (16-1) holds the top spot, and Illinois Wesleyan (14-1) is No. 2. Centre climbed to No. 8 and Berry slipped to No. 11. None of this weekend's opponents is ranked.

This Weekend
The Tigers open against Sewanee on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1:15 p.m. CT, then face host Southwestern at 5:00 p.m. CT. They close the pod against Maryville (TN) on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 11:00 a.m. CT. All three matches are at the Corbin J. Robertson Center and streamed live on FloCollege, with live stats available. Southwestern also plays Maryville at 11:00 a.m. CT on Saturday and Sewanee at 1:15 p.m. CT on Sunday.

On Sewanee
Sewanee is 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the SAA, and it comes in on a one-match winning streak after beating Oglethorpe in four sets on Oct. 3. Sewanee opened 3-4 and has gone 4-3 since, including a sweep of Millsaps and a five-set win at Maryville. Senior outside hitter Savannah Gann leads the team with 154 kills, and junior outside hitter Suna Merkler is right behind her with 138. Senior middle blocker Anna Ellison leads Sewanee with 29.0 blocks and is hitting .299. Freshmen Jordan Krise and Estela Gonzalez share the setting duties with 234 and 216 assists, and senior libero Sophia Caruso leads the defense with 236 digs. Trinity leads the all-time series 38-0 and has won every meeting since the series began in 1991, including a 3-1 win in San Antonio last October.

On Southwestern
The Pirates are 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the SAA, and they come in on a three-match winning streak, capped by a sweep of Rhodes and a four-set win at Millsaps last weekend. Sophomore outside hitter Tatum Ahrens leads the team with 156 kills and was named SAA Defensive Athlete of the Week on Oct. 5. Junior right side Sophia Burke has 121 kills and a team-high 33.0 blocks, and freshman setter Caroline Srubar runs the offense at 8.60 assists per set. Junior libero/defensive specialist Izzy Rodriguez leads the team with 268 digs. Southwestern is hitting .197 and has held opponents to .133. Trinity leads the all-time series 63-21 and has won eight of the last 10 meetings, including a 3-0 win in San Antonio on Nov. 7, 2025, though Southwestern took the earlier 2025 meeting 3-1 in Georgetown.

On Maryville (TN)
The Scots are 7-7 overall and 1-5 in the SAA, and they come in on a three-match losing streak, falling in straight sets to Centre and Berry on Oct. 3 and to Covenant on Oct. 6. Maryville opened the season 6-1, and its lone conference win is a sweep of Oglethorpe on Oct. 2. Sophomore middle blocker Ruby Walton leads the team with 130 kills and is hitting .358, and freshman opposite Charli Grubbs has 113 kills. Senior setter Dakota Vaiese has 332 assists, and sophomore libero Kyrah Bowles leads the team with 161 digs. Trinity is 1-0 all-time against Maryville, having won the only previous meeting 3-0 on Sept. 6, 2013, in Ashland, Va.
