Trinity Women's Hoops Battles McMurry and UMHB To Open 2026-27 Season

San Antonio, Texas - Trinity Women's Basketball will open its season this Saturday, Nov. 7, against UMHB, followed by McMurry on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Last season, the Tigers finished 16-11 with an 11-3 SAA conference record. They had great momentum going into the SAA Championship game before falling to Millsaps University, 66-72. This was the second year in a row that the Tigers didn't appear in the NCAA Tournament.
This year, they bring back a lot of experience, along with a bunch of new faces ready to make an impact. Two starters from last year are back, including senior guard Ivory Scott (Waco, Texas / Waco), an All SAA honorable mention, and junior guard Livy Sauvageau (Houston, Texas / Second Baptist), who averaged 13.9 points last season. Additionally, the freshman duo is now the sophomore duo, Allison Even (Tucson, Arizona / Salpointe Catholic) and Emma Winans (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) both having averaged double-digit minutes last season. This gives Head Coach Cameron Hill plenty of experienced players to work with in his 15th season.

Preview - UMHB Crusaders

UMHB and Trinity have faced off 21 times, with the Tigers leading the series 18-3. Last year, the Crusaders and Tigers faced off twice, with Trinity winning both games, 89-62 and 74-65. The Crusaders' new head coach, Zenarae Antoine, previously the head coach at Texas State, is looking to make an impact this season. Another new addition to their staff is Texas State WBB graduate, Nicole Leff.

Last season, the Crusaders finished 8-18 overall, and 2-4 in ASC conference play. Sophomore guard Natalia Galvan averaged 6.6 points per game, and had 27 points against the Tigers when the teams played at UMHB. UMHB only has four returning players, so there are plenty of opportunities for new players to prove themselves.

Preview - McMurry Warhawks

McMurry and Trinity have faced off 10 times, with the Tigers holding a small edge in the series at 6-4. Last year, the Warhawks dominated the Tigers, winning 93-69, with three players scoring in double figures. However, the Warhawks only have five returning players out of their 15-player roster.

Last season, the Warhawks were 18-9, and 12-4 in ASC conference play. Additionally, they had an exhibition game on Nov. 2 against Sam Houston, losing 59-111. Sophomore guard Ashlynn Galvin had 21 points against the Bearkats, after averaging 4.2 points per game last season. Junior guard Gracie Hunter also contributed 13 points, but only played in two games last year for the Warhawks.

Looking Ahead

After opening the season at home this weekend, the Tigers will head to Austin for a one-game match up against Concordia University on Nov. 17.
