No. 14 Tiger Men’s Tennis Topples Occidental

Los Angeles, CA - The No. 14 nationally ranked Trinity University Tigers continued their strong California road trip on Sunday morning, earning a decisive 6-1 victory over the No. 40 nationally ranked Occidental College Tigers at the McKinnon Family Tennis Center. From the opening doubles point through the final singles match, Trinity maintained firm control and dictated the pace throughout the dual.

Trinity wasted little time seizing momentum in doubles play. First off the courts were the top pairing of Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) and Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) at #1, who delivered a sharp 6-1 win to put the Tigers in front early. Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) followed at #2 with a composed 6-3 victory, and the senior duo of Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) capped the sweep at #3 with a steady 6-4 result to give Trinity the 1-0 lead.

If doubles set the tone, singles quickly put the match out of reach.

First to finish was No. 30 Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connection Academy) at #4, who turned in a dominant 6-2, 6-0 performance to extend the lead. Shortly after, Kamath at #6 kept the pressure on with a clean 6-1, 6-2 victory. Kaczmarczyk at #5 was next across the line, controlling his match from start to finish in a 6-4, 6-2 decision to clinch the team victory.

With the dual secured, the Tigers kept their foot on the gas. No. 20 Perry added another point at #2 with a polished 6-1, 6-3 win over No. 50 Ronald Chen, and Dhanani followed at #3 with a composed 6-2, 6-4 showing. All eyes turned last to court #1, where No. 16 Kersten battled through a tight contest that was ultimately decided by a 10-point tiebreaker. He fell 10-5 after the opening two sets were split, 7-5, 2-6, closing the morning in competitive fashion.

From top to bottom, it was another complete and businesslike performance by Trinity, efficient in doubles, relentless in singles, and firmly in command throughout the match.
