Trinity Softball Sweeps Whitworth in Home Opener Doubleheader

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Trinity Softball Sweeps Whitworth in first home games of the season.

The Tigers (5-1) made the first two home games of their 2026 season exciting. In game one, the squad took the victory with an extra-inning walk-off home run. Then, in game two, the bats came alive with a seven-run inning and a run rule.

Game One – Trinity 2, Whtiworth 1

Trinity leaned on timely hitting and a composed outing in the circle from Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nevada / Academy of Arts Careers and Technology) to outlast Whitworth in a tightly contested battle that came down to the final swing.

Whitworth scratched across the game's first run in the fourth inning, piecing together a leadoff baserunner, a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers wasted little time responding in the bottom half of the fifth. Koelewyn sparked the rally with a leadoff walk, and Hayden Del Toro (Cypress, Texas / Cy Woods) executed a textbook sacrifice bunt to move her into scoring position. After a fly ball pushed the runner to third, Angela Baltzell (Antioch, California / Freedom) stepped in and delivered, driving a single into right-center to plate Koelewyn and even the score at 1-1.

From there, Koelewyn took control, working efficiently through the late innings and keeping Whitworth off the board to give Trinity a chance to win it late.

That opportunity came in the bottom of the eighth, and the Tigers made it count. With momentum building, Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) stepped to the plate and crushed a pitch deep to right field for a walk-off home run, sending the Trinity dugout into celebration as the Tigers secured the dramatic victory.

Game Two – Trinity 8, Whitworth 0

Trinity jumped in front right away with a seven-run bottom of the first and never looked back.

Hannah Boudreaux opened the inning with a single and moved up on a wild pitch before Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California / Agoura) punched a hit down the left-field line to put runners on the corners. Boudreaux then came home on a Whitworth throwing error, and Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) followed with an RBI double to right-center to bring Tagawa in and make it 2-0. After Lee moved to third on another wild pitch, Hannah Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Taft) worked a walk, and Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks) reached on a throwing error that allowed Lee to score and pushed Flores all the way to third. On the next play, Arce took second and Flores broke for home—Flores scored when the throw got away, extending the lead to 4-0. Trinity kept the pressure on, as Hayden Del Toro and Samantha Melendez (Pasco, Washington / Chiawana) were each hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Angela Baltzell ripped a three-run double to left-center to score three more for a 7-0 advantage.

Whitworth was held scoreless in every inning, managing just a few scattered baserunners but never breaking through.

Trinity added one more in the bottom of the fifth. Lee started the rally with a single, and after a fielder's choice and a pinch-runner entered, Arce dropped down a bunt single to move the runner into scoring position. With two outs, Del Toro delivered an RBI single to right-center to drive in the run and cap the scoring.

Megan Kriechbaum (Cedar Hills, Utah / Pleasant Grove) earned the shutout in the circle, striking out eight and allowing three hits.
