SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - Trinity Softball drops doubleheader to nationally-ranked Tufts.
Game One - Trinity 0, Tufts 4
Tufts struck first with a two-out rally in the top of the first, using a run-scoring double and an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead.Â
Trinity's best early response came in the fourth inning. Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) opened the frame with a single, Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) followed with a base hit, and Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks) entered as a pinch runner to help load the bases. The Tigers put immediate pressure on the Jumbos, but the inning ended with the bases still full. Tufts added another run in the top of the fourth to make it 3-0.Â
The Tigers threatened again late as Lee doubled in the sixth and Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California / Agoura) singled in the seventh, but Tufts kept Trinity off the board.Â
Game Two - Trinity 6, Tufts 7
Trinity wasted no time taking control with a five-run first inning. Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Bryon Nelson) drew a walk to open the game, and after Boudreaux also reached, Lee was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Hannah Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Taft) hit a chopper that allowed the first run to cross. After Tagawa was hit by a pitch, Arce followed with a three-run triple to clear the bags and give the Tigers a 4-0 advantage. After that, Kristy Mendoza (Phoenix, Arizona / Desert Vista) plated another one to give TU a 5-0 upside to end the first.Â
After Tufts put up one in the second inning and scoreless third innings on both sides, Tufts added two runs in the top of the fourth. Trinity answered back with one of their own. With two outs, Boudreaux singled and Lee followed with a double to score her teammate.Â
Tufts kept chipping away with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to eventually pull out the comeback.Â
