HOUSTON – The 17th-ranked Trinity University men's golf team is tied for second after the first day of action at the Space City Classic, hosted by the University of St. Thomas (TX) at the Gus Wortham Park Golf Course.
The Tigers were steady across Monday's two rounds of play, shooting a team score of 573 (287-286) to remain even with third-ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX), but behind 13th-ranked Southwestern University's (TX) three-under score of 565. Tournament host St. Thomas is currently fourth with a score of 575.
Neel Sandhu (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) is tied for sixth individually and leading Trinity with his day one total of even-par 142 (70-72). He is just one shot clear of a pair of Tiger teammates in
Jeffrey Forster (Santa Barbara, Calif. / San Marcos) and
Sam Rossi (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) who both shot 143 today. Forster shot 72-71 and Rossi was the opposite at 71-72 and the duo is tied for ninth individually.
Carter Code (Calgary, Alberta, Canada / Manning) is also just three shots back of Sandhu for the top Trinity spot, shooting plus-three for the day at 145 (74-71).
Andre Follmer (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) rounds out the team scorers and is tied for 21st with a score of 148 (74-74).
Ethan Sullivan (Norfolk, Mass. / King Philip) is playing as an individual and rallied from an 85 in round one to shoot a two-over 73 in the second round of play.
Trinity will wrap up the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
