Tiger Baseball Bashes Their Way Past Southwestern In Doubleheader

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Trinity Baseball takes doubleheader from Southwestern.

Across the two wins, The Tigers (18-11) piled up 24 runs and 30 hits, with Kaleb Woodward (San Pedro, California / Palos Verdes Peninsula) leading the way by going 7-for-10 with three runs scored and a double. Grant Anderson (Austin, Texas / Vista Ridge) also turned in a strong day at the plate, finishing 5-for-10 with four RBI and three runs scored, while Michael Lustina (Austin, Texas / Westlake) provided some of the biggest swings by batting 3-for-6 with five RBI, three runs scored, a double, and a home run. Mattias Rytting (Houston, Texas / Bellaire) added another big series by going 5-for-10 with two runs scored and extra-base hits in both games, and John Ramsey (Austin, Texas / Westwood) made the most of his opportunities with five RBI, highlighted by his grand slam in the second game. On the mound, Jake Beck (Austin, Texas / Austin) earned one of the wins after striking out eight over 5.1 innings in the second game, while Will Hellings (Summit, New Jersey / Summit) was especially effective in relief in the opener, allowing just two hits and one earned run over 6.0 innings with five strikeouts to earn the victory. Brandon Morio (Austin, Texas / McNeil) also helped set the tone in game one by covering the first 3.0 innings and not allowing an earned run.

Game One - Trinity 12, Southwestern 6

Trinity jumped on the board right away and never looked back.

The Tigers broke through for five runs in the top of the first. Kaleb Woodward started the day with a double down the left-field line, and after Thomas Moss (Sugar Land, Texas / Kempner) was hit by a pitch and Will Baker (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) moved both runners up with a groundout, Grant Anderson lined an RBI single to center to bring home the game's first run. Anderson later stole second, and Moss came home on a wild pitch during a Sawyer Haynes (Waco, Texas / Midway) walk. Michael Lustina then delivered the biggest swing of the inning, blasting a three-run home run to left field to score Anderson and Haynes and give Trinity a 5-0 lead.

Southwestern answered with three runs in the bottom of the second to trim the margin to 5-3.

After Trinity was held scoreless in the second and third, the Tigers added on in the fourth with two outs. Woodward singled, Moss followed with a base hit to center, and Baker drew a walk to load the bases. Anderson came through again, ripping a two-run single to center that scored both Woodward and Moss and pushed the lead to 7-3.

Southwestern picked up one run in the bottom of the fourth, but Trinity answered again in the sixth with another big inning. John Ramsey opened the frame with a single, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch before Moss doubled down the left-field line to drive him in. Baker followed with an RBI single to right to score Moss. Anderson then singled and moved all the way to third on an outfield error, allowing Baker to score, and Haynes capped the inning with an RBI groundout that brought Anderson home for an 11-4 Trinity lead.

Southwestern scored once in the sixth and once in the eighth, but Trinity added its final run in the ninth when Haynes launched a solo home run to left field. The Tigers took game one 12-6.

Game Two - Trinity 12, Southwestern 7

Trinity put together another strong offensive showing, scoring in five different innings to finish off a 12-7 win.

The Tigers got started in the top of the first. Kaleb Woodward singled and stole second before Thomas Moss drew a walk. Will Baker was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Although Grant Anderson grounded into a double play, both Moss and Baker moved into scoring position, and Michael Lustina brought them home with a two-run double down the left-field line to give Trinity a 2-0 lead.

After scoreless innings in the second and third, Trinity added another run in the fourth. Lustina opened the inning with a single, then stole both second and third. John Ramsey followed with an RBI groundout that brought Lustina home and extended the advantage to 3-0.

The Tigers broke the game open in the fifth with a seven-run inning. Woodward started the rally with a double, and Moss followed with an infield single. A sacrifice bunt by Baker moved both runners into scoring position, and Anderson singled to center to score Woodward. After Lustina walked, Ramsey delivered the biggest swing of the day with a grand salami to left field, giving the Tigers an 8-0 lead. Trinity kept going after that, as Mattias Rytting tripled to right center, Khalfani Coney (Los Angeles, California / Crossroads School) doubled him home, and Woodward added an RBI single to center to cap the inning and make it 10-0.

Southwestern got on the board with one run in the bottom of the fifth, then added four more in the sixth and one in the seventh to cut into the lead.

Trinity picked up an insurance run in the eighth. Baker walked, Anderson followed with another walk, and Lustina drew a walk to load the bases. Baker came home on a wild pitch to make it 11-6.

The Tigers added their final run in the ninth. Rytting doubled to left center, and after Callen Singhania (Dallas, Texas / Jesuit College Prep) singled, a wild pitch allowed Rytting to score and push the lead to 12-6.
