Memphis, TN - The 14th-ranked Trinity University Men's Tennis team rolled to a dominant 4-0 victory over 36th-ranked Southwestern University in Saturday's SAA Tournament Semifinal at the Leftwich Tennis Center, clinching the match before several courts had even finished, in a wire-to-wire statement performance.
Trinity came out sharp in doubles play, wasting no time asserting control. First off the courts at #1 were the newly crowned 2nd-ranked pairing ofÂ
Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) and
Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills), who dispatched Langford and Snyman convincingly, 6-2, to give the Tigers an immediate foothold. The #3 senior pairing of Â
Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and
Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) followed with an equally authoritative 6-2 victory over Ellis and Sosebee to clinch the doubles point and hand Trinity a 1-0 advantage heading into singles. The #2 match featuring
Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and
Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) against Clemente and Patel was left unfinished at 5-4, with the Tigers holding the edge when play was called.
Singles was decisive and efficient. First to finish was the 28th-ranked Kersten at #1, who was sharp and relentless in handling Clemente 6-3, 6-1 to push the lead to 2-0. 40th-ranked Perry at #2 followed quickly, taking care of Arens 6-4, 6-3 in a composed and controlled performance to extend the advantage to 3-0. Kamath then delivered the clinching blow at #5, sweeping Alvarez 6-1, 7-5 to seal the match for Trinity at 4-0 and bring the remaining courts to a halt.
At the time of clinch, the unfinished matches told a story of Trinity well in command across the board.
Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connection Academy) led Ellis 6-4, 3-3 at #3, Dhanani was battling Patel at 4-6, 5-4 at #4, and Flores had Langford on the ropes at 6-2, 6-5 at #6.
From first ball to last, Trinity controlled the tempo at every turn. The doubles point came cleanly, the singles clinch came swiftly, and the Tigers' depth and consistency proved far too much for the Pirates to handle throughout.
