San Antonio, TX - The 16th-ranked Trinity University men's tennis team steamed to a dominant 7-0 sweep of Hardin-Simmons University at the Butch Newman Tennis Center on Friday morning, delivering a clean and efficient performance from start to finish across all nine courts.
Trinity got off to a fast start in doubles. First to finish was the pairing of Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) at #3, who blanked their opponents 6-0 to give the Tigers an immediate edge. The No.8 duo of Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) then followed at #2 with a convincing 6-1 victory to clinch the double point. The No.23 pairing of Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) and Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) then closed out the doubles at #1, completing the sweep with a 6-4 win.
Singles proved equally one-sided. Dhanani was first off the court at #2, turning in a polished 6-1, 6-3 performance to push Trinity's lead to 2-0. Kaczmarczyk followed at #4 with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory, while 16th-ranked Kersten added the crucial clinching point at #1 with a steady 6-2, 6-2 win to make it 4-0.
30th-ranked Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connection Academy) then delivered at #3, grinding out a hard-fought 7-5, 6-1 result to extend the lead to 5-0. Ivan Nikolovski (Alpine, N.J. / Dwight Global) then contributed at #6 with a clean 6-1, 6-0 victory. While Flores closed out the sweep at #5 in the match of the day, battling through a tiebreak in the first set before prevailing in the tiebreaker set 7-6 (3), 5-7, 1-0 to complete the shutout.
With the victory, Trinity improves to 7-7 on the season, while keeping up their solid home form with their fourth home win out of a possible five.Â
