SAN ANTONIO – With the temperature hovering around the mid-90s and under the lights of the Classics Elite Soccer Fields, Trinity Cross Country returned in force. With the heat of the day lingering around them, the Trinity women took their race out hot. Amidst a strong field they managed a strong 3rd place finish, a full 70 points ahead of the next team.

They were led by Gianna Keena (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis), finishing in a time of 14:29 to take 5th overall, with all their top 5 within the race's top 20. Mid-distance standouts Emerson Voldan (Arlington, Texas / Mansfield Summit) and Annette Smith (Houston, Texas / Ridge Point) took their track prowess to the cross country grounds, rounding out the women's top 3 with 14:41 and 15:00.
The Trinity women's squad will be encouraged by a strong showing and will have their hopes set in the stars. Their long road back to Nationals will feel one step closer after tonight's success.

Following the women's team's strong performance, the men's side took to the start line. Sweat beading even as the temperature began to fall and the moon rose, the men's race began at 9:15. With the weather cooling, sophomore George Mikhael (Livermore, Calif. / Granada) set the course alight by running a team best 18:47 to finish 7th. Following were Layton Carlisle (Houston, Texas / Bridgeland) and Sivin Naik (Austin, Texas / Westwood), the freshman pair finishing in 19:16 and 19:40, respectively. 

The men's side would conclude their twilight excursion with an average time of 19:27, to place them in 4th as a team. While not the showing they would have wanted, they will come away encouraged by the strong showing of the young core. 

With lots to look forward to, the Tigers will be off this coming weekend, but will return the following weekend, on September 12th for the UIW Invitational at the Windcrest Golf Course. It will open with the women at 8:00 AM, with the men to follow.
