Dickson, Tennessee – Trinity University's Women's Golf Team starts their season on a high note with a runner up finish at the SAA Fall Classic, held at Greystone Golf Club.
The Tigers finished +31 over two rounds, just 13 strokes behind Sewanee (+18) who claimed the tournament title. Centre finished in third with a +45 total and Huntingdon rounded out the top four with a +46 total. The field averaged 80.17 over the two rounds, proving the course to be difficult, yet scorable. The Tigers fought hard throughout the event to protect their position and bring the heat on Sewanee.
Jennie Dong (Fulshear, Texas / Jordan) finished T4 in the field, a strong start to her college career. Finishing two-over in today's second round, she gave Trinity a leg up in the competition. Dong carded four birdies and 23 pars, giving consistent play throughout the event.
Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) joined Dong at T4, finishing at five-over for the event, her best two day tournament score at Trinity. Lewis played steady over the two rounds, carding four birdies and 23 pars. Like Dong, she ended T5 for most pars over the tournament field.
Erice Lee (Prosper, Texas / Prosper) carded a two-over, 74, in today's second round, finishing the event at T10. A strong start to her college career, Lee fought hard and bounced back after yesterday's round. With six birdies throughout the tournament, Lee came in T3 for most birdies in the tournament field.
Naaz Mehta (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) finished T18 for the event, carding scores of 77-80, to conclude with a +13 total. Mehta's consistency added to Trinity's depth in delivering a podium finish.
Sabrina Nader (Houston, Texas / The Kinkaid School) carded an eight-over 80 in the second round, staying consistent throughout the event with scores of 80-80 (+16). Despite a rocky start in today's round, Nader bounced back with three birdies to secure a T20 finish. With three birdies and 21 pars, Nader fought hard with consistent play, adding to Trinity's overall success.
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) finished today's round at seven-over concluding her event with scores of 82-79. Huddleston remained especially strong in her front nine scores, finishing with a three-over, 39, in round one, and a one-over, 37, in round two. Her overall consistency and reliable play helped Trinity hold onto their position.
Looking Ahead
Trinity will return to action September 21-22 at the Texas Legends Cup, hosted by University of Mary-Hardin Baylor at the Lighthouse Country Club in Kingsland, Texas. The Tigers look to build on their success as they continue into their fall season.
