#2 Men's Soccer Topples Texas Lutheran to Open 2026 Season

SAN ANTONIO – The second-ranked Trinity University men's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a definitive 4-1 win over Texas Lutheran University on Tuesday night.

The Tigers (1-0) scored all four goals in the first half, with the last three coming in a span of less than three minutes. Trinity struck first in the 20th minute, but the Bulldogs (0-1) answered just over six minutes later. The Tigers then took the lead less than 10 minutes later and poured on two more goals before the break to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Trinity tallied 29 total shots across the two periods, finishing with six on-target attempts among 15 total shots in the second half. Trinity also held an 11-1 advantage on corner kicks, which included nine in the second half alone.

First-year players Samer Dimassi (Sugar Land, Texas / Clements) and Eloy Ferrer (Houston, Texas / Tompkins) had a goal and an assist each in their collegiate debuts, with Ferrer's goal counting as the eventual game-winner. Ethan Cowdrey (Crawley, England / Ardingly College) scored the opening goal of the season to put the Tigers up 1-0, only to see the game tied minutes later. Also scoring was Gabriel Romanenko (Los Angeles, Calif. / Geffen Academy), with Milo Williams (Austin, Texas / University of Texas), Eduardo Parra (Oklahoma City, OK / Casady School), Hodge MacDonald (Hertford, England / Haileybury), Gustav Moberg (Borås, Sweden / Sven Eriksonsgymnasiet), and Leo Juaregui (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) all providing assists in the game. Goalkeepers Jayden Schell (Dallas, Texas / Plano) and Brandon Gongora (San Antonio, Texas / Madison) allowed just one goal over five total shots and the defense allowed just two second-half attempts to preserve the lead.

Cowdrey's goal was followed by an equalizer by Texas Lutheran, then Ferrer netted the game-winner in the 35th minute for his first collegiate score. Romanenko scored less than two minutes later for a 3-1 lead, then Dimassi put the finishing touches on the half in the 38th minute to cap the scoring.
