KINGSLAND, Texas – Trinity University's Women's Golf Team sits in second after the opening round at Legends Golf Cup.
The par-72 layout stretched 5,727 yards and had a field scoring average of 83.87. Despite the challenge, the Tigers fought hard, carding a thirteen-over total after finishing their first round of the Texas Legends Cup. Mary Hardin-Baylor took the lead with a four-over total finish. In third sits Hardin-Simmons and Southwestern, tied with a +29.
Individually,
Erica Lee (Prosper, Texas / Prosper) led the Trinity Tigers with an even-par finish for today. She sits in first, carding a total of four birdies, showing consistency and determination throughout the round.
Mason Fikes (Dallas, Texas / Plano West) showed out for the event, carding three birdies through the day. With a three-over total, Fikes sits T8 individually in the field. Her front nine was especially important for Trinity, as she carded a two-under front nine.
Jennie Dong (Fulshear, Texas / Jordan) rounds out the top ten individual scores with a four-over total of 76. Over the round, Dong remained incredibly consistent, paring 15 holes today.
Naaz Mehta (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) sits T17 for the round, carding a six-over total, 78. After a rough front nine, Mehta bounced back with a one-over back nine.
Natalie Lewis (El Paso, Texas / Coronado) finished round one with an eight-over 80. Staying consistent and persistent through the round, she sits in T21.
With two individuals to round out the Tigers,
Sabrina Nader (Houston, Texas / The Kinkaid School) and
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) played strong in round one. Huddleston carded a two-over total, carding four birdies for the round. She sits in T5 going into round 2. Nader stayed dependable throughout the day, finishing at T21 with an eight-over total. Her front nine was strong, carding two birdies to stay at an even 36.

The Trinity Tigers will return to Legends Golf Club tomorrow, looking to take the lead from Mary-Hardin Baylor in the final round of the Texas Legends Cup. Only nine strokes back of the lead, the Tigers look to card more birdies and deliver strong play to finish on top of the field.
