SEGUIN, Texas – Trinity University Women's Soccer (7-0) controlled the game from start to finish in a 1-0 win over Texas Lutheran (6-2) on Friday night at Texas Lutheran University.
The Tigers had most of the ball from the opening whistle and kept the Bulldogs pinned in their own half for long stretches. Trinity kept serving dangerous balls in the box, and hitting shots from the outside, but was unable to convert leading to a scoreless game at the break.
The Tigers finally broke through in the 61st minute off of a Texas Lutheran goal kick, where
Lila Brackin (Dallas, Texas / Lake Highlands) won the ball through two players and struck it, placing the ball in the upper right corner to put Trinity ahead 1-0.
Trinity nearly doubled its lead in the 84th minute when
Finley Hoover (Houston, Texas / St. Agnes Academy) ripped a shot from the top of the box hitting the crossbar. The rebound fell loose, but the Tigers couldn't put it away. That didn't end up mattering as Trinity's back line held Texas Lutheran to three shots all night, and
Colette Whitsitt (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) made one save to keep the clean sheet.
Trinity outshot Texas Lutheran 17-3, put six shots on goal to the Bulldogs' one and had a 7-0 edge in corners.
