SAN ANTONIO — No. 7 Trinity Volleyball (10-3, 2-1 SAA) makes its first road trip of Southern Athletic Association play this Friday, traveling to Jackson, Miss., for a conference doubleheader against Rhodes and host Millsaps at the Hangar Dome.
The Tigers split their first SAA weekend at home. They fell 3-1 to then-No. 9 Berry in the conference opener, then rebounded on Saturday. They rallied from an 0-2 deficit to beat No. 14 Centre in five sets, handing the Colonels their first loss of the season, and then swept Oglethorpe. Sophomore
Lily Long (Glenview, Ill. / New Trier), an SAA Offensive Athlete of the Week earlier this season, leads Trinity in kills. Junior libero
Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) leads the team in digs. Senior
Lauren McCarthy (Corrales, N.M. / Horizon) anchors the front line as Trinity's top blocker.
AVCA Poll
Trinity is No. 7 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, with 1,367 points. Wisconsin-Oshkosh (13-1) holds the top spot with 54 first-place votes, and Colby (9-0) is No. 2. Berry moved up to No. 8, and Centre held at No. 14. Neither Rhodes nor Millsaps is ranked.
This Weekend
The Tigers open against Rhodes on Friday, Oct. 2, at 12:00 p.m. CT, then face Millsaps at 6:30 p.m. CT. Both matches are at Millsaps College as part of a four-team SAA pod that also includes Southwestern. Both matches stream live on FloCollege, with live stats available.
On Rhodes:
The Lynx are 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the SAA. They come in on a four-match winning streak, capped by five-set wins over Maryville (TN) and at Sewanee last weekend. Earlier this season Rhodes also won a five-setter over Mary Hardin-Baylor. Senior outside hitter Yzzi Dsamou leads the team with 100 kills, and sophomore outside hitter Caroline Short is right behind her with 98. Trinity leads the all-time series 35-2 and has won the last four meetings, including a 3-0 sweep in Memphis last October.
On Millsaps:
The Majors are 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the SAA, and they are unbeaten at home this season (5-0). They dropped their league opener 3-0 at Sewanee, then bounced back with a sweep of Maryville on Sunday. Millsaps has held opponents to a .090 hitting percentage this season. Freshman outside hitter Khloe Duncan leads the team with 131 kills. Senior libero Sandy Bourgeois leads the defense with 212 digs and was named SAA Defensive Athlete of the Week in Week 2. Trinity is 35-0 all-time against Millsaps, including a 3-0 sweep in Jackson last November.
