Wade Lytal ‘09 is back for his 10th season with the Trinity Tiger football team, serving as the Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach. He is also the Academic Success Coordinator for his alma mater, which he returned to as a coach ahead of the 2018 season. Coach Lytal also served on the Tiger staff for two seasons right after his graduation.

The Tiger offense has seen great success over the past several seasons under Coach Lytal’s direction as the OC, suffering just one conference loss over the past four years and 
helping Trinity to four straight Southern Athletic Association Championships and four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Playoffs. 

Trinity ranked in the top 25 in red zone offense last season, and had three offensive linemen earn All-SAA honors: Caleb Bayer, John Hughes, and Conner Keele. Bayer was also an All-Region selection for the second time in his career in 2024. Coach Lytal has coached a pair of offensive linemen who went on to earn All-America honors - including Wyatt Bush (2021) and Patrick Quintana (2019). 

Coach Lytal earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity in December 2009. He was a standout offensive guard and tackle for the Tigers from 2005-2008 and was elected to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team his final two seasons. Coach Lytal also received D3football.com All-South Region Third Team honors in 2007 and Second Team recognition in 2008.

He was a student assistant coach for the Tigers offensive line in 2009 while completing his undergraduate degree in composite social studies. Coach Lytal was the O-Line coach in the 2010 season while earning a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Coach Lytal was the offensive line coach and assistant track & field coach at Houston (TX) Memorial High School  from 2015-2018.

He was an assistant football coach at Illinois College from 2011-2015, with the multiple roles of offensive coordinator, offensive line coach, and recruiting coordinator. The football team earned an NCAA Division III playoff berth in 2011, and the Blueboys won the Midwest Conference South Division title in 2014. 

Coach Lytal and his wife, Malorie, have two young daughters, Kellyanne and Emmalynn.
