Box Score San Antonio - The Austin College Kangaroos handed the
10th-ranked Trinity University Tigers their second
straight loss with a 74-49 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
victory Saturday in Sams Gym.
Trinity (7-3, 1-1 SCAC), which tied a season-low in points,
trailed by as much as 30 points in the game. Austin College (8-2,
3-0 SCAC) held a 36-20 halftime advantage, shooting 50 percent in
first-half 3-pointers, to Trinity's 17 percent. Trinity and Austin
College were tied at 17-17 with 8:35 left in the half, as the
Kangaroos began to pull away. The Tigers came no closer than 11
points in the second half, and the Kangaroos took the 30-point
lead, 72-42, at 3:07.
The Tigers shot 32 percent from the field, to 48 percent for the
Kangaroos. Austin College hit 12-25 (48 percent) in the 3-point
range, and Trinity made 3-12 (25 percent). The 'Roos led
42-27 in rebounding, with a 15-8 edge in offensive boards.
Trinity junior guard Danielle Hubenak of San Antonio (Churchill) led the
team with 12 points. Hubenak shot 3-6 from the field, and sank all
six free throw attempts. Sophomore forward Abby Dietert of Cibolo, Texas (Steele), added 11
points, on 5-6 shooting. Sophomore forward Kelsey Goodell scored eight points, and led the Tigers
with 10 rebound and two blocks.
Austin College was paced by Kayla Redden's game-high 20 points.
Katy Williams added 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The two teams will meet again Feb. 12 in Sherman, Texas.
Trinity hosts Colorado College in an SCAC game at noon Sunday.
