defeated the Trinity University Tigers 42-14 Saturday afternoon in
a non-conference football game at Matador Stadium.
Trinity dropped to 2-3, and Texas Lutheran improved to 3-2. It
marked only the second victory for the Bulldogs over the Tigers
since the series resumed in 2000. Trinity had won nine of 10
meetings with Texas Lutheran, which beat the Tigers 14-9 in Seguin
in 2006. Last year's game, also played in Seguin, was a tightly
played contest as Tiger kicker Garrett Biel
booted a a 34-yard field goal with no time on the clock, giving
Trinity a 22-21 win. Overall, Trinity leads the series 14-9, with
the first game played in 1965.

period. Trinity was in a position to tighten things up, on a

quarter. Biel's field-goal attempt from 23 yards was blocked,
marking his first field goal miss of the season, as he previously

advantage early in the second quarter.
Trinity remained in the hunt, driving down inside the 10 yard line.
The Bulldogs made a goal-line stand, however, and quarterback
Patrick Dickinson was stopped just inches from the goal line on
fourth down. Bunger gave Texas Lutheran a 21-0 lead on
the next possession, driving 99 yards in 11 plays, and leaving
Trinity just 46 seconds before the half.
In the third quarter, Bunger scored on a 6-yard run to put TLU
up 28-0, then completed a 15-yard TD pass to Dominique
Hardaway at 9:40 in the third, for a 35-0 lead. The Bulldogs
picked up their largest lead of the game, 42-0, as Bunger fired in
a 34-yarder to Billy Hardee at 5:22 to play in the
third quarter.
Trinity got on the board in the fourth quarter when Jarrod Burns
returned TLU's Jarret Buchholtz fumble 65 yards for a
touchdown. It was Trinity's first fumble return for a
touchdown since Matthew Shavers did it against Austin College in
2004.
