Baseball Beats DeSales Thursday for Sixth Straight Win

San Antonio – The Trinity Tigers baseball team won its sixth straight game with a 20-8 victory over the DeSales (Pa.) Bulldogs Thursday night at E.M. Stevens Field.

Trinity, which beat DeSales 18-4 last Tuesday, improved to 14-4. DeSales dropped to 2-4.

The Tigers resume their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule this weekend, with two games Saturday and Sunday at Millsaps in Jackson, Miss. Each game begins at 1 p.m. Trinity stands at 6-2 in SCAC play. The Tigers return home Tuesday, March 16, to host Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) at 7 p.m.

DeSales scored one run in the top half of the first inning of the 3-hour, 33-minute game. But junior designated hitter Kyle Felix of Woodside, Calif. (Bellarmine College Prep), cracked his second home run in as many games, a two-run shot to left-center field in the bottom of the first inning. Felix, who has hit safely in 26 consecutive games, has now collected 22 round-trippers in his career. Felix collected three RBI and scored four runs.

Trinity took a 16-4 lead by scoring seven runs in each of the second and third innings. In the two innings, Trinity produced five hits and took advantage of four errors by DeSales. First-year catcher Kelly Woodruff hit a two-run double to center field in the second inning. Woodruff, from Atlanta (Riverwood), also had a two-run single in the third. He batted 4-5 with five RBI and scored two runs.

Tiger junior outfielder Kevin Calbick of Burnaby, British, Columbia (Burnaby South Secondary), was 1-2 with four RBI and two runs scored. Junior second baseman Dominick Robusto of Laguna Beach, Calif. (Laguna Beach), went 2-3 and scored three runs.

First-year left-hander Ryan Lucero of Aurora, Colo. (Grandview), earned the win in relief.  He improved to 2-0 on the season, pitching one inning without allowing a run or a hit.

The Tigers scored 15 earned runs off the eight Bulldog pitchers, swatted 16 hits, committed three errors, and left 12 players on base. DeSales scored seven earned runs, scattered eight hits, made eight errors, and left nine runners on base.
