San Antonio – The Trinity Tigers baseball
team won its sixth straight game with a 20-8 victory over the
DeSales (Pa.) Bulldogs Thursday night at E.M. Stevens Field.
Trinity, which beat DeSales 18-4 last Tuesday, improved to 14-4.
DeSales dropped to 2-4.
The Tigers resume their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
schedule this weekend, with two games Saturday and Sunday at
Millsaps in Jackson, Miss. Each game begins at 1 p.m. Trinity
stands at 6-2 in SCAC play. The Tigers return home Tuesday, March
16, to host Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) at 7 p.m.
DeSales scored one run in the top half of the first inning of
the 3-hour, 33-minute game. But junior designated hitter Kyle Felix
of Woodside, Calif. (Bellarmine College Prep), cracked his second
home run in as many games, a two-run shot to left-center field in
the bottom of the first inning. Felix, who has hit safely in 26
consecutive games, has now collected 22 round-trippers in his
career. Felix collected three RBI and scored four runs.
Trinity took a 16-4 lead by scoring seven runs in each of the
second and third innings. In the two innings, Trinity produced five
hits and took advantage of four errors by DeSales. First-year
catcher Kelly Woodruff hit a two-run double to center field in the
second inning. Woodruff, from Atlanta (Riverwood), also had a
two-run single in the third. He batted 4-5 with five RBI and scored
two runs.
Tiger junior outfielder Kevin Calbick of Burnaby, British,
Columbia (Burnaby South Secondary), was 1-2 with four RBI and two
runs scored. Junior second baseman Dominick Robusto of Laguna
Beach, Calif. (Laguna Beach), went 2-3 and scored three runs.
First-year left-hander Ryan Lucero of Aurora, Colo. (Grandview),
earned the win in relief. He improved to 2-0 on the season,
pitching one inning without allowing a run or a hit.
The Tigers scored 15 earned runs off the eight Bulldog pitchers,
swatted 16 hits, committed three errors, and left 12 players on
base. DeSales scored seven earned runs, scattered eight hits, made
eight errors, and left nine runners on base.
