Jackson, Miss. – The Millsaps Majors beat
the Trinity Tigers baseball team 12-2 Saturday in a Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference run-rule game at Twenty Field.
Trinity, which had its six-game winning streak snapped, now
stands at 14-5 and 6-3 SCAC. Millsaps improved to 12-4 and 7-0
SCAC. The two teams conclude their weekend series at 1 p.m.
Sunday, with a single game. Trinity and Millsaps will play three
games April 17-18 at E.M. Stevens Field.
Millsaps took a 10-0 lead, with a run in the first inning, four
runs in the second, and five in the third. Trinity got on the
board in the top of the sixth, as senior first baseman Evan Jones
of Hillsborough, Calif. (Junipero Serra), homered to right center
field. Jones' solo shot was his sixth home run of the
campaign.
Junior catcher Kyle Felix of Woodside, Calif. (Bellarmine
College Prep), had his 26-game hitting streak broken, dating back
to last year.
Tiger junior right-hander Noah Solomon of Austin, Texas
(Anderson), was the first of five Trinity pitchers, and took
his first loss of the season. Solomon (3-1) pitched two
innings, and allowed six earned runs, six hits, and no walks.
Trinity's pitching staff yielded 10 earned runs, nine hits,
six walks, and two Millsaps home runs.
Trinity scored one earned run off the two Millsaps pitchers,
made only four hits and four walks, committed two errors, and
left five players on base. The Majors had one error and stranded
eight runners.
