San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers scored a run
in each of the final two innings to beat the Texas Lutheran
Bulldogs 4-2 Tuesday night, in a non-conference baseball game at
E.M. Stevens Field.
Trinity improved to 9-4, and Texas Lutheran stands at 8-4. The
two teams will meet again April 14 in Seguin, Texas.
The Tigers were first on the board, with two runs in the bottom
of the first inning. The RBIs were provided by junior catcher Kyle
Felix, and sophomore outfielder Nick Pappas. Texas Lutheran
countered with two runs in the top of the third, with a two-RBI
single by junior designated hitter Cody Miller. The Tigers took a
4-3 lead in the seventh inning, as junior outfielder Dylan Early
scored on a throwing error by the Bulldogs pitcher. An insurance
run was added in the eighth, as first-year first baseman Will
Donnan cracked an RBI double.
Felix, from Woodside, Calif. (Bellarmine College Prep), batted
1-4 with an RBI and one run scored. He is now just one hit away
from reaching the top 15, in Trinity career hits. Felix previously
scored his 100th career run, making him the 21st player
to reach the milestone.
Early, from Santa Monica, Calif. (Santa Monica), hit 1-4 and
scored one run. Donnan, from Houston (Memorial), went 1-3, with an
RBI and a double.
Tiger sophomore right-hander Ben Klimesh of Wilmette, Ill. (New
Trier), went the distance and remained undefeated at 3-0. Klimesh
allowed one earned run, three hits, three walks, and struck out 10
batters.
Miller hit 1-3 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs. Senior second
baseman Andrew Femath hit 2-4, and scored one run.
The Tigers continue their SCAC campaign Saturday in Georgetown,
Texas, with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. against Southwestern. Trinity
is 3-2 in SCAC play.
