Sherman, Texas – The Trinity Tigers
baseball team opened a two-game SCAC series with an 8-2 victory
over the Austin College Kangaroos Saturday at Baker Field.
Trinity, which has won six straight games, stands at 25-7
overall. The Tigers are in first place in the SCAC West Division
with a 12-4 record. Austin College dropped to 17-15 and 9-10 SCAC.
The two teams will conclude their series with a single game at 1
p.m. Sunday. Trinity took three games from Austin College last
February at E.M. Stevens Field.
The Tigers were first out of the gate Saturday, with two runs in
the opening inning. Evan Jones keyed the Tigers with an RBI triple.
The Kangaroos closed the gap with a run in the bottom half of the
inning. Trinity added a run in the fourth inning and led 3-1.
The game began to open up in the fifth, as Jones cracked a
two-run home run to right field, his fourth straight in as many
games. Jones now has recorded 26 career homers, and 11 this season.
He batted 2-5 with three RBI, and scored two runs.
Trinity scored three runs in the seventh inning, with RBI
singles coming from Kevin Francke, Patrick Frasier, and Dylan
Early.
Kevin Jackson batted 2-3 and scored two runs.
Right-hander Ben Klimesh was the starting pitcher who
picked up the victory. Klimesh, who is undefeated at 6-0, allowed
two earned runs, seven hits, two walks, and struck out six batters,
in eight innings of work.
The Tigers scored seven earned runs, collected 10 hits, and
committed no errors. Austin College made two errors in the game.
