Sherman, Texas – The Trinity Tigers
baseball team swept the SCAC season series with the Austin College
Kangaroos, following a 19-3 seven-inning, run-rule victory Sunday
at Baker Field.
Trinity (26-7, 13-4 SCAC), ranked No. 25 nationally by
d3baseball.com, won Friday's game 8-2, and captured a
three-game series last February in San Antonio. The Tigers, on a
seven-game winning streak, are in first place in the SCAC West
Division. The Kangaroos dropped to 17-16 and 9-11 SCAC.
Evan Jones homered for the fifth consecutive game, a
two-run shot in the first inning to right field. He pushed his
career mark to 27 home runs, just three away from tying the Trinity
record. Jones cracked his 12th home of the campaign, two shy of
equaling the Tigers single-season record of 14. He batted 3-3 with
six RBI, and scored two runs, along with hitting two doubles.
Trinity's biggest inning of the game was the fifth, when
the Tigers produced 10 runs on four hits, and one Austin College
error. Dominick Robusto hit a three-run homer to left field, his
second round-tripper of the year. Robusto went 2-5 with three
RBI, and scored two runs in the game. Jones contributed to the
high-scoring inning with a two-RBI double down the right field
line.
Nick Pappas, who accounted for two doubles, hit 2-3 with three
RBI, and two runs. Jonathan Hall batted 2-3 with two RBI, and one
run. Kevin Jackson produced three of the Tigers' runs.
Right-hander Noah Solomon was the first of three Trinity
pitchers, and claimed the victory. Solomon (4-2) pitched 4 2/3
innings, allowing two earned runs, seven hits, two walks, and
striking out four batters.
The Tigers travel to Kerrville, Texas, Tuesday for a game with
Schreiner. Trinity then goes to Seguin Wednesday for a single game
with Texas Lutheran. The Tigers close out their regular-season home
schedule next Saturday and Sunday, with a three-game SCAC series
against Millsaps.
