Kerrville, Texas - Trinity's baseball team
secured its eighth consecutive win by defeating Schreiner
University 16-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
Trinity (27-7) clinched the season series with Schreiner after
today's win, going 3-1 against the Mountaineers this season.
The Tigers scored five runs in the third and fourth innings to
open the scoring in the game, then answered two Schreiner runs with
11 runs from the sixth to the eighth innings to take complete
control. The Mountaineers added two more runs in the bottom
of the eighth, but the game was out of reach by then.
Three different Trinity players had three hits or more in the
game, including reigning SCAC Player of the Week Evan Jones.
Jones, who had hit a home run in five straight games heading into
today, went 3-4 with two runs and three RBI. The three runs
driven in by Jones tie the Trinity career record set by Bo Edwards
(1997-00). Jones hit two doubles and also drew two walks in
the game.
Nick Pappas went 4-6 with two runs and three RBI, while Kevin
Jackson was 3-4 with two runs and four RBI. Chris Walden and
Kevin Calbick had two hits and two RBI each, while Kevin Francke
and Patrick Frasier both had two hits. Frasier also scored
twice, while Dylan Early scored three times in the game.
Tanner Barron earned the win for the Tigers, improving to 2-0 on
the season. He gave up two runs on six hits through five
innings, striking out four batters. Kyle Bogese finished off
the game by striking out the side in the ninth inning.
Trinity returns to action tomorrow, facing off against Texas
Lutheran University at 2:00 p.m. in Seguin, Texas.
