Suwanee, Georgia - Trinity's baseball team had
six different players earn All-SCAC honors for the 2010 season,
highlighted by SCAC Offensive Player of the Year Evan Jones, and
Co-Coach of the Year Tim Scannell.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a 28-7 record
overall, and a 13-4 mark in the SCAC West Division. Trinity
came into the SCAC Tournament as the West's top seed, and defeated
Oglethorpe University (No. 3 East) 11-7 in Thursday's opening
game. It was the team's 10th consecutive victory.
Jones led the SCAC in batting during the regular season with a
.480 average, and also led the league in slugging percentage
(.888), and on-base percentage (.583). As well as leading
Trinity in nearly every offensive category, Jones is in the top six
in the SCAC in five additional categories. He is a three-time
All-SCAC selection and is Trinity's fourth player to be named the
Player of the Year.
In addition to having an outstanding 2010 season, Jones is also
in the top 10 in numerous offensive categories for his career at
Trinity. Most notably, he broke the career record for RBI
with a double in the first inning of Thursday's win over
Oglethorpe.
Coach Tim Scannell is in his 12th season at the helm of the
Tiger baseball team, and has now earned Coach of the Year honors
five times in his career (1999, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010). He
holds the highest winning percentage (.695) of any coach in SCAC
history, and is in the top 20 nationally among active coaches in
Division III. The next win for the Tigers would mark the
ninth time in 12 seasons that Coach Scannell has led the team to 30
or more wins.
Senior Chris Walden earned All-SCAC honors in his first
full-time season as an offensive player. Walden was one of
two designated hitters selected, and is hitting .443 this
season.
Nick Pappas was one of just two sophomore position players to
earn a spot on the All-SCAC team, and both of those were
outfielders. Pappas is third on the team with a .424 batting
average this season, and is one of just two players with more than
50 RBI. He is tied for second in both doubles and home runs,
and is tied for the team lead with four triples as well.
A trio of juniors earned All-SCAC honors as well for the
Tigers. Kyle Felix was hitting .426 when an injury sidelined
him for the past nine games, but he is still considered one of the
league's most dangerous offensive players. Despite the games
missed, he is still leading the team with 13 doubles, and is third
on the team with 41 RBI.
Kevin Jackson is enjoying his best season as a Tiger in 2010,
and he earned his first All-SCAC selection as a result.
Jackson leads Trinity with 53 runs scored and 15 stolen bases this
season, and is second on the team with a .433 batting
average. He has career highs in virtually every offensive
category this season.
Centerfielder Dylan Early earned All-SCAC Honorable Mention for
the 2010 season, hitting .320 with 33 runs and 31 RBI for the
Tigers. He is third on the team with 24 walks and is one of just
four players with 10 or more steals this year.
The Tigers are seeking their sixth SCAC Championship, and will
face Austin College in the second round on Friday afternoon.
Trinity won conference titles in 1995, 1999, 2004, 2006, and
2008. Trinity also won a College Athletic Conference (later
re-named the SCAC) in 1990.
