Box Score Millington, Tennessee - Trinity pitcher Ben
Klimesh threw a complete-game, seven-hit shutout to lead the team
to an 8-0 win over DePauw University on Saturday afternoon,
vaulting Trinity into Sunday's SCAC Championship.
Trinity (31-7) scored runs in the first, third, and fourth
innings in support of Klimesh, who enjoyed his best outing of the
season.
Klimesh struck out 11 batters in the game, giving up just seven
hits and two walks - though both walks came late in the game.
The 11 strikeouts also make him the third player this season to
reach 100 strikeouts in a career, and is leading the team with 71
this season.
Most importantly, his performance allowed the rest of the Tiger
pitching staff to rest in anticipation of tomorrow's title game.
In the sixth inning, Trinity doubled its lead with a three-run
inning to take complete control, and then added two more insurance
runs in the eighth for the final score.
SCAC Offensive Player of the Year Evan Jones continued his
stellar season, going 3-4 with three runs and two RBI, smashing his
13th home run of the season. He was a triple away from
hitting for the cycle.
His 13th homer is just one away from tying the school
record set by Bo Edwards in 1998 and tied by Doug Grigar in
1999. With the two RBI, Jones also tied his own school record
from the 2008 season, and already broke the career RBI record
earlier in the tournament.
Nick Pappas, Dominick Robusto, and Patrick Frasier had two hits
each in the game, and Robusto also added two RBI. Kevin
Calbick scored two runs for the Tigers as well.
Later tonight, Millsaps and Rhodes will play in an elimination
game, with the winner facing DePauw for the chance to meet Trinity
in Sunday's final. The Tigers have now reached the
championship game 15 times in 19 seasons in the SCAC.
