Box Score Belton, Texas - The Trinity Tigers baseball
team won its fourth straight game with a 16-5 non-conference
victory over the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders Tuesday afternoon at
Red Murff Field.
Trinity, ranked No. 20 by d3baseball.com, improved to 5-1. Mary
Hardin-Baylor dropped to 0-5. The two teams will meet again March 1
at the Trinity Baseball Field.
Tiger senior catcher Kyle Felix (Woodside, Calif./Bellarmine
College Prep) swatted his second home run in as many games. He hit
a two-run homer in the second inning, and crossed the plate with
senior right fielder Kevin Calbick (Burnaby British,
Columbia/Burnaby South). Felix batted 2-5, with two RBI, two runs,
and a double.
Trinity started off the game with a run in the top of the first, on
an RBI double by junior designated hitter Nick Pappas (Los
Angeles/Loyola). The Tigers added four runs in the second, keyed by
Felix's homer. The Cru tightened the game a bit with a
two-run second inning.
But the Tigers took a 9-3 lead with one run in each of the fifth,
sixth, and seventh innings. The eighth inning was big as Trinity
put four runs on the board. Sophomore first baseman Jonathan Hall
(Kenilworth, Ill./New Trier) singled to center field for a two-run
RBI. Hall, the SCAC Offensive Player of the Week, hit 2-5 with
three RBI, and scored two runs.
Trinity scored three runs in the ninth, highlighted by a two-run
double by first-year shortstop Christian Muscarello (Tuscon,
Ariz./Catalina Foothills). Muscarello, who banged out two doubles,
hit 2-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.
The batting champion of the game was first-year second baseman
Nicholas Iacovella (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit) who was 5-5 at the plate,
with an RBI, a double, while scoring three runs.
Junior right-hander Ben Klimesh (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) remained
undefeated with a 2-0 record. Klimesh hurled seven innings and
allowed three earned runs, six hits, three walks, and struck out
nine Crusaders.
The Tigers scored 16 earned runs, blasted 21 hits, committed three
errors, and left 12 players on base. Mary Hardin-Baylor had four
earned runs, eight hits, one error, and stranded seven players.
Trinity travels to Alpine, Texas, for three non-conference games
with Sul Ross Friday through Sunday.
